Will councils etc rename streets etc named after Andrew MW, when he was a prince?

Firstly decide what to replace the name with? It's a pain of informing the Royal Mail who then pass on their database to various companies.

Plus if you are selling your home and live on a road named after AMW as a prince, nobody wants to know due to the address

An obvious solution here would be to not name any streets after anyone until they’ve been dead for at least 75 years. That’s sufficient time for anything undesirable about them to come
out. I think there’s a similar rule for blue plaques, although I’ll stand corrected if I’m wrong.

I have to say I have a distaste for naming anything after people still living.

Ha ... you must live close to me as this is just down the road. I'm surprised some enterprising local armed with tippex and a sharpie hasn't yet changed it to 'Nonce Andrew's Close' and added 'quick, run' to it as well!

You could be that local hero!

I note that the iDEA Award already dropped all mention of Royal connections very abruptly quite a while back (it was supposed to be a digital enterprise version of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, supported by the Duke of York)

I know, I didn’t understand that at all, especially in a Social Services building! It was just so inappropriate.

A good suggestion for a change of name for the JS suite - Rob Burrow

This is the Street naming and numbering policy of many councils - though mine is 25 years after death. But then you need to get permission from next of kin, descendents etc and if they were in the military you'd need their squadrons permission. Developers would have to provide all these approvals which is an added cost so they generally would drop the idea quite quickly once they hear about this.
