Gambling addict ex in court…

Currently in court proceedings for child arrangements and finances.

I have just seen all STBXH’s bank statements and it look like he’s a gambling addict. I’m talking hundreds of transactions totalling £50k a year, paid for on a credit card.

He has now cleared the credit card (sold something) but will the courts care about this from the children’s point of view or finances?

House is owned outright through my contributions, I don’t really want him gambling away whatever share he gets. I also don’t think this level of gambling is great for the children to be around.

They won’t no. Housing will be decided by need, and they wouldn’t make assumptions about his child care without evidence that it’s not fit

The court won’t care. You’re both liable for the debts pre separation and presumably he still did the basics like feeding the kids when with him etc

The court won’t penalise him fot being a gambling addict. He could still get up to 50% (depending on circumstances) and gamble that money if he wanted and you/the courts wouldn’t be able to stop that.

Why would the children be around the gambling?

If he’s taking them to betting shops or the races? Seeing his mood go up and down depending on the events that he’s gambling on?
Him being glued to his phone playing online gambling games or looking up sports results?

The court won’t care what he’s spent his money on. Or what he spends any settlement on.

Joint assets will be decided upon.

Children aren't allowed in betting shops.

I'm just asking the OP if she knows why/how the children would be around the gambling.

He gambles on his phone.

He was glued to it, now I know why…one child actually said “daddy says he’s working but he’s really just watching sport on his phone”.

If the court were going to do anything about that, well over half of parents would be in trouble for being glued to their phones whilst in charge of their kids!

Sorry OP but they don’t care. He’s an adult and he gets to decide to chuck his half of the house away if he wants to in the eyes of the law. Until you are divorced he can also chuck away your money too sadly.

Thank you, I’ll climb off my high horse.

I am just so angry that, at a time he was strapped for cash and I was covering everything, he was pissing this money up this wall.
