I’m due this surgery in the next 4 weeks and I’m just wondering if anyone has had this can give any advice on what the recovery was like? When did you go back to work etc? Thanks in advance!

Had it a few weeks ago. Anterior wall. After a three year wait. I've been told do lifting, driving or "gymnastics" for 6 weeks. Dh is on cleaning, cooking and picking up duties. Also dog walking. Good luck. Ensure you get dihydrocodine before leaving the ward. Good luck.

Hello, good luck to you OP. What is this surgery for? Does it help with stress incontinencd?

summerloving113 · 20/02/2026 17:59

@Quine0nlinethat is good to know, thank you! What is the dihgdrocodine? Also when are you able to drive?

@hashtaghoorayyes the colpo suspension is for stress incontinence due to a bladder prolapse and then I’m also having surgery to repair my vaginal wall because of another prolapse.

Hi OP.

I had an anterior and posterior repair with suspension. Recovery was fine but left me with a lot of scarring in the vagina. Unfortunately, 10 years on, I'm back to square one.

Best of luck.

@hashtaghoorayive had problems since I had my youngest 7 years ago but I’ve been on the waiting list for this operation for just over two years. I’m dreading it to be honest but I’m only early 30s so feel like I need to get it sorted as it is having a big impact on my life. I’m just terrified about the recovery whilst looking after DC.
@LadyBrendaLastim sorry to hear that! Was your op done vaginally or keyhole through the stomach? One of my biggest worries is it needing to be done again down the line

It was vaginally @summerloving113 . That said, I have put on weight in the intervening years so doubt that helped!

Quine0nline · 20/02/2026 20:10

Typo - dihydrocodeine - a strong opioid.

I think it was 6 weeks before driving, especially stick shift.

FluffyMcFluffFace · 20/02/2026 20:19

I had the same combo done - vaginally. Maybe 10 or so years ago. I was sore afterwards, but it wasn't agonising. I think I had 12 weeks off work (office job, and not sure it would be as long now) and couldn't lift or drive for at least 6 weeks. It was successful but starting to get some (mild) symptoms from both again now. The biggest issue for me is that it has left me with a lot of pain during sex. I thought it would improve but it hasn't and post menopausal symptoms haven't helped that. On a day to day basis however it was very successful. Good luck!

thanks for all the advice. My op is being done laparoscopic through three incisions in my stomach so I’m hoping that may help to prevent some scarring internally. I’ve been told a minimum of 8 weeks of work but I work in childcare so I’ll have to see how it goes. @FluffyMcFluffFacepain during sex is something that is worrying me as they said that could be a side affect.

i had it 6 months ago - anterior and posterior repair - it was brutal but it has done the job, certainly for the moment anyway. I was off work for 8 weeks

Hopefully if you are having it all done laparoscopically it will be less painful. I wasn't offered that option - not sure if they even did it like that then. It is the only negative thing for me. I have had it checked out and was told that there was nothing visible to explain the pain, and therefore not much they can do to improve it. Fingers crossed for you.

I’m scheduled for autologous sling surgery.
wasn’t eligible for colpo suspension because of a previous prolapse repair. Am also 50
so wouldn’t get as good a result without the sling. My insides are battered from four pregnancies and vaginal births.

Have you to self catheter after the surgery?
I was told it was a possibility after bladder lifts so I had to learn how to with a specialist nurse. They told me it’s better to learn before instead of after surgery when you’re sore and tired .

I was told it’s a 6 week recovery and to avoid constipation and heavy lifting long term as that’s what can damage the muscles.

Good luck

Quine0nline · 01/03/2026 15:30

Just over three weeks since. I got a wee infection, picked up right away and antibiotics. All better now. Not sore, "itchy". Still passing the odd bit of stitch. Feeling is like the couple of days before a period. Almost like holding in a really good fart!
Oh get the long pads for the first couple of weeks for and, and there will be, leakage.
