Changing child's surname

Hi
So I'm looking at changing my children's surnames and think I have to go through an enrolled deed poll. I'm just abit confused, do I need people to witness and sign it as well as a solicitor? Or would a solicitor not be needed if I have my 2 witnesses?

Did you do an enrolled one?

You can draft one yourself and have 2 witnesses for your own deed and that is acceptable as I have done one for myself and the passport office accepted it.

Not sure for a child though as are they under 18 ? Is dad on birth cert etc ? Not sure if there are more documents needed for child.

Yeah I think for a child is has to be enrolled, they are both under 18. Dad's on bc but has agreed to change it. So not sure if he has to be there to sign or if I can send him the documents and he send them back to me. Its all confusing me

Not to be nosy op but can I ask why you're changing it? I thought this could only be done for children if there is significant risk to them as a result of their surname as its looked at as part of their identity?

My children don't see their biological dad for years and they call my husband dad, they want to change it so they all have the same name as me and their siblings. They've been asking for months. You can change names no problem, I think it's adoption more that they're concerned about with their identity

My DC did their own at 16. They aren't enrolled. Didn't cost a penny. Just got 2 witnesses to sign.
We had to wait until 16 as their Dad wouldn't agree to it.
