Woman knocking on door saying come outside

Just had a knock on door.

this Same woman knocked couple of days ago at 8pm, saw mil look out window at her and walked off. Btw we live on ground floor.

i ask what she wants without opening door

she claimed to be my upstairs neighbour (never seen her before), says parcel.

i reply we don’t have your parcel

she goes no, your parcel was delivered to me a month ago. Come get it. It’s in my flat.

I reply we didn’t order anything.

she goes so what should I do with it? Throw it away in bin? I reply yes.

I never ordered anything

even if I did. Why wait a month, especially when you walk past my flat everyday and then why tell me to come to her flat? Why not bring it

and why at 8pm and why leave when my mil saw you?

am I right to find this odd

Yes, strange behaviour, following on from walking away the previous time when seen by someone else.

If it was the first time she had knocked, maybe not so odd. Could you go with someone to knock on her door in the daytime, or early evening if working?

Goodadvice1980 · 19/02/2026 20:40

Sounds like a scam to get you outside or to just open your door. Very creepy.

Goldleafcat · 19/02/2026 20:52

If she truly has your parcel, she should have brought it with her to your door. Why on earth wouldn’t she do that?

She sounds unstable and you’ve done the right thing.

Queenoftheuniveseandallplanets · 20/02/2026 14:29

so I just went upstairs and knocked on flat number she said she lives in.

THIS LADY DOES NOT LIVE HERE!!

a man came out, doesn’t know what I’m talking about. Says he lives alone

thank god I didn’t open door.

this lady was all nicely dressed too, older/over 60, posh accent. Someone you would not see as threatening.

But what the hell was that?? I wonder what her plan was???

The scam is that once outside and distracted someone else gets into your property. A lot of people would come out without locking/closing their door, after all they think they're just nipping to a neighbours... so someone else can get in.

Alternatively thats the eventual goal, but first she needs to figure out who actually is in your property, so there might be several attempts first at various times to see who comes to the door or looks out of windows.

TON618 · 20/02/2026 20:12

It's definitely some sort of scam. Or worse.

Exactly this. Its just a different type of distraction burglary. Your local police will have an online form to report things like this - it's probably worth ten minutes of your time to fill it in.

OMG! Definitely a scam then! Kudos for checking, if she returns you can say the bloke who lives there doesn't know her!

SemperIdem · 20/02/2026 23:48

That’s really unsettling. I agree with @CarefullyCuratedFurniture, it is worth reporting via online form.

TheHouseElf · 21/02/2026 00:02

Needs reporting to the police - they (its fair to assume the woman is not acting alone) will be going around the area doing this to others, particularly the old and vulnerable.

HappyValentinesDogtanian · 21/02/2026 00:03

I wonder what the plan is once they get you out of the house, though, you go upstairs with them and then they just stand there awkwardly outside the house they don’t live in?

nomas · 21/02/2026 00:13

How creepy, especially as it’s in the dark. Our nextdoor page has videos of similar, a random woman asking for the woman in the house to come outside, saying she lives on the same road, but she does not.

DoIdriveaVauxhallZafira · 21/02/2026 00:18

Yeah I would log this with 101 (non emergency police). You might be able to do so online.
