Cystoscopy found a bladder tumour, no idea if its cancer or not yet

Apologies, posting here for traffic

The procedure itself was no worse that a smear test, but I was pretty sure they'd just tell me I had some sort of infection. But they found an area of inflammation that needs further investigation and they had to warn me that it could possibly be cancer.

I'm 56, I've never smoked and I honestly thought bladder cancer was something that affected elderly male smokers. OK, so I realise its not confirmed as cancer yet, but I'm reeling a bit.

The hospital is going to be rebook me for an appointment in a few weeks time to remove the dodgy bit, send it for testing and take it from there.

I'm not sure what I'm posting for, probably just a hand hold. Does anyone have any positive stories about bladder cancer?

So sorry you are going through this.

About 12 years ago (I was about 40) I had some bladder problems. A cystoscopy found a very small lump. It was removed in another cystoscopy (under general anaesthetic), tested and found to be benign - possible just a reaction to a previous UTI or something.

Since then I've had no bladder problems at all and had almost forgotten this even happened.

Very much hoping this is something similar for you, OP. I have no words of wisdom, but just wanted to say that this does happen sometimes when it's nothing sinister.

My 70 year old uncle was diagnosed last year, has surgery and they advised he might need radiotherapy but it wasn't necessary and he was given the all clear pretty quickly. Has to go for checks up every 6 months or yearly I think.

That's more good news!

Honestly, we feared the worst as he is a male smoker but it was all fine really quickly.

You probably don't even have it but if you did, there's lots of positive stories out there.

Seven years ago I had a bladder tumour. Removal and a dose of chemo under general anaesthetic and no further complications. Leading up to it I was bleeding terribly from the bladder and was terrified. Sincerely hope it will all be straightforward for you. Fingers crossed for you.

I’m still reeling TBH. I am booked in for a TURBT to remove the tumour, 2 weeks today

Thank you for the positive stories, I hope to get a few more
