To be fed up with the ‘leaks?’

AIBU to be fed up with the constant ‘leaks’ from the Government?
Today it’s (another) one about the SEND white paper- which a lot of people are very worried about and anticipating with a degree of trepidation.
If it’s ready, publish it.
If it’s not and employees are ‘leaking’ stuff, then this needs better management systems in place and people disciplined appropriately.
If it’s on purpose then it’s bloody ridiculous and makes a mockery of our intelligence to call it a leak.

You do know they leak it on purpose. It's a way of testing the public's reaction. If there is a positive response then it's fully published, if it's negative then they can claim the leak was unfinished and inaccurate and can then make changes before publishing.

I think we all know that but it's a repellent way to run a country.

dhomhnuill · 19/02/2026 08:56

Its a weak way to run the country! Its been a trend in this government, leak information- disrupt the market or consumer confidence and then dont do it!! The budget was a good example, changes to SDLT, council tax/mansion tax etc.
With this govt. We dont know if were coming or going with leaks and u-turns

They are indecisive and lack decent strategy to properly lead

This! Exactly. I didn’t vote for them, but I certainly hoped for better. This particular labour government has been a mess.

It is revolting to try to govern by leaks especially when it's something like the education of vulnerable children.

Parents don't know what to expect.
Schools don't know what to expect.

And it's encouraging people with no skin in the game to "other" the children as though they're somehow the problem rather than poor planning and policy of governments.

Dreadful!

Moonnstarz · 19/02/2026 09:31

To be honest all parties do this, it's not just the Labour party.

Needlenardlenoo · 19/02/2026 10:16

But they're in power.

Mum38383 · 19/02/2026 10:26

I can’t stand it. Some things are bound to be unpopular - if there are things that need to be done (like raising taxes) and they are confident in their decisions they need to carry them through.

The SEND white paper has already had public consultations. Leaking to test reactions and then changing policy is pathetic and weak and it makes it look like the government are letting the loudest voices dictate policy.

I say all this as a SEND parent too. And I agree it’s a ridiculous way to make long term high impact decisions on vulnerable children.

You don’t have to read the leaks

The Budget leaks were much of a nothingness
