..to have complained to GMTV about Loraine Kelly's feature about women snapping back into shape after birth ?

Looby34 · 16/06/2008 10:32

Did anyone see this ?

Loraine interviewed 'z' list celebrity Lisa Scott Lee who modelled in a bikini 6 weeks after birth.

The feature had been trailed earlier on GMTV as being about the pressure some women feel under to snap back into shape 6 weeks after birth. Interesting I thought, having given birth 4 weeks ago (2nd child, so under no illusion about my body's recovery !)

The feature simply perpetuated the pressure to which it was referring and was void of any facts about real women and the length of time it takes for the body to recover.

They did mention that 'Dr Hilary' would be on tomorrow to dicuss this further, but even so - pretty iresponsible I thought.

I've probably wasted my time complaining but there you go ! (And before anyone points it out to me, I don't expect serious features on LK Today, but I don't expect such irresponsible boadcasting).

it seems that for celebs ahving a baby is an accessory as it is obvious that as soon as they are out of the labour ward they are handing it over to some nanny whislt they have lipo/hit the gym all hours god sends. makes youi wonder what their priorities really are! it si jsut a completition to see who is the fastest at getting their pre preg bodies back! maybe if we ahd all the money they have we would look as great as that!

bethoo · 16/06/2008 11:12

excuse typos!

ranting · 16/06/2008 11:12

So she's waffling on about how awful it is that the media put women under pressure to look thin after birth, then flogs herself half to death to perpetuate said myth. Really, she ought to have a word with herself.

LSL, you really are unfeasibly thick, love.

Cicatrice · 16/06/2008 11:12

Maybe all the interviews concentrated on her weight loss because they didn't want to bring up her deplorable choice of name.

Does the poor thing take her name or the other half's? I can't think of a surname that would make it any better though.

flossish · 16/06/2008 11:13

stella - try weight watchers! You get extra points for BF!!!

poppy34 · 16/06/2008 11:13

ok it is completely hypocritical from daily mail that is main proposer of the she is too fat/thin with woman but MK /airbrush article

link

MerryMarigold · 16/06/2008 11:21

MK looks really tired! they should've added a twinkle in her eye while they were at it.

Cicatrice · 16/06/2008 11:26

From the airbrush article MK looks pretty good without it! And that level of recovery would still be unattainable for most of us. But using airbrushing promotes completely unattainable ideal of how a new mum can look.

I want to let myself go. Have my hair shaved off and get a wig.

morningpaper · 16/06/2008 11:29

I am just seething with jealously that they don't have wrinkled stomachs and stretchmarks

how is that possible

I hate them all

bastards

poshtottie · 16/06/2008 11:30

She was on plugging some tv show on tonight called "celebrity skinny mums" or something. Don't think I'll be watching.

nkf · 16/06/2008 11:30

The moral of this story is not to watch GMTV.

MarmadukeScarlet · 16/06/2008 11:42

My only friend who was back in serious shape whilst bf was dieting madly and running 5x per week also swimming after 4 weeks.

Her DS was born on 75% centile and dropped off the bottom of the charts by 10 weeks.

She was in denial confused as to what may have caused this and was adamanant that she wouldn't bottle feed.

Eventually he was admitted to hospital very poorly.

I always think of this story when I look down at my wobbly tum and think of my bonny bf babies.

rebelmum1 · 16/06/2008 11:47

erm you never really get back into shape as it once was, a lot of these celebs have csection and a tummy tuck at the same time. It's a question of priority. Getting back into shape takes time, my doc told me not to run for at least 6 months and to take it very easy. Also pummelling the pavement with huge engorged breasts and doing sit-ups everyday is quite frankly insanity imho

SueW · 16/06/2008 11:48

Oh but bkf what else to watch between 8.30 and 9.15 whilst ironing?

TV pretty lousy these days IMO. I've even run out of things to sky+

SueW · 16/06/2008 11:48

nkf even

waffletrees · 16/06/2008 15:12

One of my friends decided to get back into shape ASAP. Dhe sliiped a disc when her baby was 8 weeks old and had to have surgery on her back. Yup, she got MRSA and her MIL looked after her baby for the first 18 months. Her DH could not afford to take time off. Her MIL, however, lived 200 miles away so she rarely saw her baby.

Get into shape really quickly if you want but it can have massive reprecussions.

only read op but have to say i was really surprised at LK doing this, felt it was pretty 2 faced of her. usually she would be the one saying how much nonsense it was.

and as for sour puss scott-lee, she may be thin again but she will always be a whinging pain in the arse.

sparklesandnowinefor4months · 16/06/2008 15:48

airbrusing maybe......

sparklesandnowinefor4months · 16/06/2008 15:48

or airbrushing even!

Fluffybitoffun · 16/06/2008 16:01

You need fat to breastfeed don't you? Isn't that why your body lays down fat stores when you're pregnant? Seems pretty bloody stupid to go out and blitz them if you are breastfeeding.

totalmisfit · 16/06/2008 16:12

i just wish they'd be honest and say either

'er actually we adopted and i wore a cushion under my dress for 9 months beforehand'

or

'yep i just magically snapped back into shape with the help of lipo and a tummy tuck'

cos we know that there can only be one or two or at a push, three possible explanations.

the third one could be 'they covered me in makeup and airbrushed me to within an inch of my life'

Playingthewaitinggame · 16/06/2008 16:17

YANBU, for most women post pg fat is a normal natural thing to still have and FGS who cares about weight when you have a lovely new baby, life is too short.

However, I do think there are a few lucky types that do just loose weight easily. Obviously some/most celebs work really hard (too hard maybe) to get back into shape and I am sure the odd one has probably had surgery, after all their careers depend on how they look, its sad but thats the industry they are in so probably feel like tha have to "play the gane". Others are probably just naturally blessed. My own mother walked out of hosipital in her size 10 jeans after having me (she was kept in 5 days but even so). Also don't forget some of these ladies are super fit and toned pre and during pg, so that must make it easier to loose it afterwards.

Looby34 · 16/06/2008 20:26

No objection whatsoever towards women who are lucky enough to be walking out of the maternity ward in their pre preg jeans. I know people like this too - I have mates with stomachs as flat as boards while mine is like an old mattress.

What I objected to was the billing of the feature as being about the pressure on women to get back into shape quickly, then the whole piece focussing on someone who had succumbed to exactly that pressure - with no mention of when it was safe to exercise or anything.

The hospital physio told us we should not even be doing pilates until at least 6 weeks..never mind posing in a bikini.

I too felt a bit 'let down' by LK who sat there trying to insinuate she was like us 'normals' while at the same time telling LSL how great she looked .
