The next step in humanising pooches...

TBF, this is a great idea for the charity to fund raise. The dogs aren't being inflicted on those of us who are fed up with everywhere now being dog friendly.

But cinema...for...dogs... 🤦🏻‍♀️

Ours local chain, Picturehouse has done this for years. I’ve not been yet as I’ve loads of dogs and only one is suitable. To be fair she’d be perfect in that environment.

Agix · 18/02/2026 08:25

I can imagine this being very lovely for people who are more comfortable with dogs than people. I avoid the cinema like the plague because it's too peopley and loud and claustrophobic, but if they had a cat event where everyone brought their cats and there were cats everywhere, I'd definitely feel more comfortable and would actually be able to go to the cinema without having a panic attack. I am calmed and reassured by animals.

Not necessarily dogs for me though lol.

What I mean to say is, maybe the evening is less "for the dogs" and more for the dog people.

SchnizelVonKrumm · 18/02/2026 08:25

But it's not really "for dogs" though, is it - it's just an event that people are allowed to bring their dogs to to raise money for charity.

Globules · 18/02/2026 08:55

I could get on board with a cat cinema @Agix !

The dog people will no doubt be quoted saying just how much Fido loved watching the screen and how he can't wait to go again.

This. Its a novelty charity event, its not like the odeon or cineworld have suddenly decided you can't see a film any more without a dog with you!

I think it s great idea, its actually my idea of heaven- two things I love in one place

BringBackCatsEyes · 18/02/2026 09:07

As long as it’s properly cleaned afterwards so that subsequent guests can enjoy a film with out the place smelling like wet dog or sitting on hair then go for it.

Mydogisagentleman · 18/02/2026 09:25

Great idea for fundraising.
My dim bit would lay down and sleep

Mydogisagentleman · 18/02/2026 09:25

Boy, my dim biy

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 18/02/2026 09:26

Stupid idea but I’ve seen it before.

LVhandbagsatdawn · 18/02/2026 09:27

It's a one-off novelty event. Extremely British too. We're known for being mad about our animals and just a little bit eccentric.

KeepOffTheQuinoa · 18/02/2026 09:28

I thought the dog-friendly screenings were for the benefit of owners who can’t leave their dogs home alone?

Rather than for the benefit of the dogs?

I wish they would restrict the areas that are made available so that we can avoid in future: in our otherwise lovely cinema the dog owners do not observe the request that the dogs sit on a blanket or mat.

XelaM · 18/02/2026 09:29

Picturehouse has been doing this for years 🤷‍♀️ I've taken my dog. It's very cute but my dog wasn't as well-behaved as I had hoped and wanted to sniff other doggies around him

abracadabra1980 · 18/02/2026 09:32

NRTWT but I wouldn't dream of inflicting that kind of sound level on my dogs ears.

MyThreeWords · 18/02/2026 09:35

I'm trying to think which films my dog would like to see. He'd like to picture himself as Clint Eastwood, I'm guessing, so Westerns would be good, or anything else with idealised toxic masculinity. Or rabbits, of course.

randomchap · 18/02/2026 09:36

What films are they showing?

Reservoir Dogs
Lady and the Tramp
Turner and Hooch
Dog Day Afternoon
Wag the Dog

Or maybe dogs would enjoy Stickman or The Long Walk

rwalker · 18/02/2026 09:39

first off I’m not a dog fan
but as an novel event to raise money for charity absolutely brilliant
all like minded people together
goes without saying needs to be cleaned properly afterwards

my fear it would lead to people bring there dog to normal screenings because “ there dog got so much out of it “

I was thinking the same. I love dogs, lovely idea in theory but would only want to take my dog to a nice quiet gentle film, not a blockbuster action thriller. Then there’s all that tempting food …….

One of mine is a big Wes Anderson fan, causes no end of rows as the other prefers French New Wave cinema and derides Anderson as pretentious and twee. The cat like Jason Statham films, so keeps out of it.

How on earth do you manage that level of conflict? When do you get time for you and your needs?

One of my dogs is genuinely fascinated by David Lynch films. Obviously has good taste. My other one is only interested in the TV if I put DogTV on.

Don't think I'd trust either of them in the cinema though.

This is bloody superb - I love DL! (RIP)

I wish my dog had cinematic taste like that- she prefers cartoons 😐

mindutopia · 18/02/2026 11:00

Poor dogs. They want to run in long grass and sniff in hedges and splash in rivers. They do not want to go spend 2 hours in the sensory overload of the cinema where they aren’t even allowed to play.

Eh? Going to the cinema to socialise with other dogs for 2 hours doesnt prevent their owners taking them for a walk - films arent 18 hours long!

My dog would love it- she loves going to new places

Agree with this. DP is severely allergic to dogs. A couple of dogs having been in an environment is one thing. But a room that was previously crammed with dogs? He could end up in hospital. Cinemas are full of soft furnishings and carpet to enhance acoustics. Wouldn’t fancy the job of cleaning all that after a bunch of hairy, dander depositing mutts😬

Beethoven

But now doubt about it - on a screen that size my dog would shit herself at a 7627362 lb St Bernard apparently coming at her 😂
