To cancel coming to London due to measles

Sorry another measles thread.
I live in the north west and have booked to bring my 5 year old to London for the day on Thursday just to go to the natural history museum and go home again. He’s fully vaccinated and has had the booster but his three year old sibling has only had the first dose (due to have his second next week!). Is it risky to visit? My 3 year old had heart surgery as a baby, he’s considered fully repaired now and doctors told us to treat him “normally” but I do worry a bit extra.

thanks

I find these threads bewildering as a Londoner. I’ve lived all over the place and never felt safer than in London. I’ve never been robbed, attacked or had any kind of nasty infection. There is a problem nationwide with vaccination take up - and a few areas of London with particular low rates have had an outbreak. But even if you hung out in a soft play in those areas, the chances are tiny even if you weren’t vaccinated. Let alone for those of us who are. When you read about these cases you have to remember this is a tiny number compared to the huge number of people who live here. London is incredibly safe as a place.

Your DC are vaccinated, if they weren’t then measles would be a risk anywhere.

I’m sure he’d be ok. But, I understand you must worry given what he’s been through x

I’ve just come back from a family trip to London (visiting the Natural History Museum). My older ds loved it so we’ll be going back soon. However, my baby is 8 months and hasn’t had the vaccination yet so I’ll be waiting until she has the jab to go back now.

I’m not being hysterical about it or anything, but I don’t mind postponing the trip by a month or two (by which time my baby will be vaccinated) to avoid brining my unvaccinated baby to a heavily populated area with a measles outbreak. Yes, I’m hearing these are localised cases in the suburbs and in deprived areas- I don’t care tbh, are people saying that people from those areas just remain where they are and don’t travel elsewhere near London?

I’m not saying that people local to the area should self isolate or anything ridiculous like that. But I just don’t want to make an unnecessary trip if I don’t have to. I’d rather wait until my baby has protection from the jab.
