To not understand why bravissimo's bands stop at 40?

I'm helping a friend shop for some new bras. She's around a 42- 44M* and I've just been looking on bravissimo. They have a few bras that would be perfect for her but the bands all stop at 40 and I just don't understand it. Surely larger people are more likely to have a larger bust?

(* She has gained a lot of weight during medical treatment after cancer and her health is still delicate so please don't be mean about her size)

Having been this size i am used to not being catered for in the ‘main’ - it’s not as if there is a shortage of biggest sized women. ann summers were my go to, sexy lace planet bras come in 44 although im not too sure the cup sizes go up far enough.

Jan24680 · 14/02/2026 16:31

there are loads in a 42.

Jan24680 · 14/02/2026 16:32

Oh and being pregnant I've sized out of all my bras and those bra extenders have saved me from needing new bras.

afromom · 14/02/2026 16:37

I didn’t realise this! I bought some new bras yesterday from Bravissimo and wished I had been to them years ago, but if they don’t go above 40 back size I wouldn’t have been able to anyway.

What a shame, that feels like they are really missing a trick, so many larger people need a big cup size and it’s so hard to find.

I was a 44H until recently, and have always struggled. I’m a 36HH now and I think that’s going to be even harder to find in mainstream shops unfortunately.

I always shopped in M&S for my bras when I was bigger, perhaps they may have something, I also think Yours have bras too that might work for her. They seem to go up to a J cup and 50 back.
I hope your friend finds some nice bras.

Try elomi.

But yes, you're right. Annoying and silly.

But I have a size 10 shoe so know all about this annoyance and silliness when it comes to women's clothes and shoes sizing.

AmberUser · 14/02/2026 17:27

Dw used to work there. She and her colleagues raised this repeatedly in staff voice meetings, along with the clothing sizes (back when they did clothes), and the reply from HR was basically that they didn't want people to view them as a 'plus size' shop. Really horrible for a brand which is meant to focus on body positivity.

bridgetreilly · 14/02/2026 17:39

Because heaven forbid a fat woman wants to shop there.

42C here, excluded by practically all brands as too fat without big enough boobs, fed up of being told to try Bravissimmo.

It's a shame their clothes were so dull because it was a great idea. To be fair the plus size market is well catered for, more so than people with large cup sizes and small backs.

So dull, but so good for bigger chest sizes! I've still got a blouse from there which looks new. Got put off them after that feedback, though.

Try the boob or bust measuring method - it’s a bit different but means most people end up with a smaller band and bigger cup. Could work for your friend too @PinkLemonadee

Jan24680 · 14/02/2026 17:45

Molke might be a good option for her.

EspanaPorfavor · 14/02/2026 17:48

Because it’s not a plus size shop. It’s like asking why Zara doesn’t do a size 22.

Elomi is a good brand for bigger back sizes.

B1anche · 14/02/2026 17:51

It could be a cost thing. Perhaps a lot more expensive to construct? People generally object to paying more for big sizes so I would imagine that keeping the sizes within a particular range keeps the costs down for everyone.

I can get into some 43s. Bikenstock and some DMs.

Ive been this shoe size since 1995 and it's just so amazing that things haven't got loads better.

The one silver lining of all the transgender shit was I thought shoes might get better. Nope.

I feel your pain. I was recently in America where it suddenly got really snowy and I absolutely needed new boots. I went to a few places and was made to feel like an absolute big-footed freak. Trying on mens boots etc. Ended up in DocMartens and got some there. The rest of the time, I order from Next and just take them back if they don't fit because I am a 43 but they send a 42 a lot for size 9 which doesn't fit.

I feel your pain! DH (almost 70) is a size 13 in shoes and you can never find any mens shoes this size in shops, except specialist ones that are incredibly expensive. He's only 6ft 1" so it's not like he's some sort of giant.

DS aged 20 has been a size 13.5/14 since he was about 15 years old and trying to buy school shoes, football boots and trainers every year was an utter pain. I can't understand why, when many lads are now well over 6ft it hasn't occurred to shoe manufacturers that their feet are also getting bigger.

I'm also another fat lady without boobs. I really want a 42B/C - but as soon as you get to 40 they don't seem to do anything under a D cup in most shops.

catera · 14/02/2026 18:28

Because they’re not for larger people specifically, they’re for larger bust/smaller back
they also don’t do an M cup

RiderOfTheBlue · 14/02/2026 18:31

Can't she buy a 40M and add an extender?

I think it's because they where founded for women who are a regular size, but have a large bust. For example I'm a 34 J and have never been larger then a 36 back and was a 32 when younger and if you go into regular underwear stores the larger cup sizes will often only start at a larger back size, so often minium 36/38.

Bravissimo was started to fill a gap in the market that at the time only a handful of independent shops catered for. I've been buying bras from them since they first opened, I loved their clothing rang as well as no where else could I buy a button up top that actually fit well. I do miss them.

Women also often wear to big a back size, has she actually measured herself recently?

Is she measuring using the +4 method? If so she needs to use the www.booborbust.co.uk method, because even if she’s gained a lot of weight it’s likely she doesn’t actually have a 42-44 inch rib measurement.

PinkyFlamingo · 14/02/2026 18:41

Try Glamorise and Miss Mary of Sweden, they do really nice well fitting bras. I'm a 48F

No, she's not. Her band size is 42, but she's also like some softer bras in a bigger size for bad pain days.
