Getting rid of diving doors

TheDaringOliveNewt · 14/02/2026 13:07

I have some doors between my living and dining room. They are glass. I have a toddler so they are never closed. They also don't close properly as they were from a skip (previous owner).

So if I was to get rid, would it be a big drama?

If I needed them in future I would get some new ones hung.

Just me and little one at home

Why would it be a drama? Do you have a landlord whose permission you need?

I really wanted to know what a diving door was but now I’m disappointed. I’m struggling to imagine how and on what planet could getting rid of a pair of dangerous and ill fitting doors could ever create a drama- who is saying you should keep them?

Im not a fan of through rooms so would probably reinstate some decent doors.

Unless we are missing an important part of the story I can't see what the issue is.🤔

Presume you mean dividing doors (doesn't sound anything like as interesting does it)?
The only time that I can think of this being an issue is if they were fire doors (unlikely if they are glass and ill fitting) or you are a tennant in which case I guess you have no right to make this type of change without permission?

You say they are never closed.
If a pair of correctly fitting solid doors were fitted, would you then use them to separate the two spaces?

They aren't dangerous. The doors are fitted ok and work, but don't seem to serve a purpose

No I just don't see a use for them whatsoever.

I also own, so no issues.

If it’s your house why can’t you just do as you please? I’m so confused as to why this is even a question tbh

Isittimeformynapyet · 14/02/2026 14:25

I'm another one who can't imagine why this might cause drama.

Are they made from kite marked safety glass?

Just get rid.

Shinyandnew1 · 14/02/2026 14:32

Oh no, I wanted to know what diving doors were!

Harrietsaunt · 14/02/2026 14:37

I’m only here for the diving doors.

Shuffles off disappointed.

PleasantPedant · 14/02/2026 14:40

I imagined a door with a Tom Whatsit in budgie smugglers ...

Anonanonanonagain · 14/02/2026 16:45

Get a screwdriver and get started. Start at the bottom hinge though, my experience of doing this has taught me that much. I took down the doors, put up a curtain rail and curtains instead and if I need to separate the rooms i close the curtains.

Assume op just means "is removing them a lot of work/going to cause the house to fall down".

Answer is no, should be straightforward.
