To wonder why women get called too emotional to do things like compete in sports when you have this (Winter Olympics)

The Norwegian bronze winner who cried and announced he cheated on his girlfriend.

Can you IMAGINE if that was a woman! There’d be calls to ban women from Olympic events for being too emotional, and she’d probably get called a slag all over social media too.

I also enjoy tennis and only see temper tantrums with racket breaking frommale players. Same for football. The amount of diving in the men’s game, compared to the women’s (England’s goalie played on with tissue stuffed up her heavily bleeding nose in the Euros) is unreal. Don’t even get me started on how the male coaches behave at the sidelines.

But you will find people even now who swear blind that it’s women who are too emotional!

Women are called hormonal on their periods - which is when their female hormones have the LEAST influence on their behaviour, and they have a closer hormonal profile to a man.

So once a month we become like the more erratic and testosterone-driven sex - who are like that all the time.

To be fair, you have picked one of the most emotional areas for men.. competative sports.

I can't remember it exactly now, but I'm sure years ago there was a statistic comparing how likely a man was to cry at his football team winning their league/cup, vs their wedding, vs their child's birth..

Men and women have, on average, different emotional triggers/responses to different stimuli.

Men who like to call women emotional tend to forget that anger is an emotion.

I liked when that American newspaper wrote a headline something about "Survey shows that men are more emotional in the workplace than women. Who knew?" and then they got thousands of letters saying "Anyone who has ever worked with a man".

Absolutely this
Also menopausal women are called hormonal
Erm no the hormones that buffer you against mens bullshit are gone ...

Tbf this silly self centred twit has been called out massively on SM and has apologised.

I think it’s fine for men to cry if their team win/lose. I cried both times England won the Euros. And I didn’t cry at my wedding. I’m talking about the erratic behaviour of the sportspeople, which is not acceptable and totally bizarre, and definitely dogs in the overly-emotional category.

I know but it won’t become a wider conversation about how men are X Y Z like it would with women. Women can’t even not-smile in sports without getting called out on it.

That’s fascinating. Is that pre-menstrual or from day one of menstruation?
I am very impatient with others just before.

Funnily, I watched a clip only last night of Djokovic defending Coco Gauff who was filmed breaking her racket aggressively out of sight of the public saying players should be entitled to some privacy...

OriginalSkang · 13/02/2026 13:33

Does anyone say that about women competing in sports?

Exactly. I work in an 80% male dominated industry and the amount of hissy fits, tantrums, outbursts puts a bunch of toddlers to shame!!

Women are happy to blame their hormones for some things when it suits us though!

I’m glad it’s not just me thinking that.

. Sports people (and fans as you say) cry all the time. Good on them.
That's not what he's been criticised for...
