One lane?

The red marked bit of road, is a one lane carriageway? Am I being unreasonable?

context: OH has just gone all the way round the roundabout and declared it a 2 lane merge in turn. This he did in his vintage car rather than my boring white vw.

One lane?

I don’t understand the question 🥴

What relevance is the vintage car?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 11/02/2026 17:50

Pardon? Unless there are merge signs or markings, the outside lane (at that point of the roundabout) can come off there. If there are no lines on the road, assume one lane.

POTC · 11/02/2026 17:50

I'm assuming that you're talking about this -

Going all the way around a roundabout to avoid a queue—often called "slingshotting"—is not illegal, but it can be considered a punishable offence if it causes "inconsiderate" driving.

Irrelevant whether it's 2 lane merge or not, anyone coming from the roundabout needing to go down that road has to turn in, whether it's one lane or two.

ElfAndSafetyBored · 11/02/2026 17:58

Looking at Google maps it looks like there is room for two lanes as you come off the roundabout. But there’s no white lines down the middle like the opposite lane towards the roundabout.

I’m guessing you drive round there a bit though, so what do other people do?

ElfAndSafetyBored · 11/02/2026 18:00

The roundabout is only two lane though so I’d expect only one to feed that exit. So one lane.
I’m clueless really.

Maybe he enjoys driving said car so much he felt the need to go further than necessary.

Does he have to do hand signals @Jan24680 ? Was he struggling with telling others where he was intending to go?

Was he trying to get more admiring glances than usual in his Very Special Car?

Or did he fuck up his positioning on the roundabout and is trying to make himself look cleverer than you instead of admitting his mistake.

We both think that's funny. It's a bit embarrassing that he has a distinctive car and is "slingshotting"

I’m perplexed too. I’m imagining a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang type old car with bells and whistles trundling around the roundabout and veering off (slowly but with much kerfuffle) down the lane marked. Probably doesn’t answer your question but then again I don’t understand your question. Sorry @Jan24680
