To worry that there may be no hope for a good future thanks to AI

I use it, it up skills me a lot, I am at the top of my game but.... I think I'll be lucky to reach retirement age still in work and I despair for young people trying to get entry level jobs. Everything that I did to get on the ladder is done by AI now.

I know the nebulous cope response is "that's what the luddites said - NEW jobs will arise" but I think this is different. AI can think. AI allows a handful of unbelievably wealthy people to control everything.

Someone please post something hopeful before I pop from despair thanks :(

Things have changed so much even since the start of this thread! Today I trained my Claude in a skill which includes trawling my emails, Sharepoint, project management software and my own chat in order to extract the key information for a project timeline and confirmation document. It will present me with all the relevant files, check they’re the right ones and prep all the documentation I need. It will now do this every time I confirm a new project in seconds. That used to be a half day’s work.

AI is changing our world and God knows where we will be this time next year.

I have to just take it one day at a time or I’ll explode.

Are self employed or are your work ok with you sharing all that data? Doesn’t it concern you what could be done with all that personal information?

I work in AI and I think the current models are incredibly powerful. Yes, an AI model doesn't think like us and it is just a prediction machine but along with agentic and physical AI it's really coming close to mimicking out capabilities at least. There is some pretty concerning stuff out there (and also some pretty amazing) that it can do especially in the hands of the wrong people.

And yes, of course it can create new content just as much as most of us can create new content by applying what we know about the world in different ways. It's just it can do it much quicker and much more thoroughly.
