Cheshire but down south?

Hi all, posted here for traffic.

We (couple in our 30s plus DCs under 5), currently live in Cheshire and absolutely love it here. We’re close to Alderley Edge high street and I love that we live somewhere that feels fairly rural whilst also having so much within walking distance. We have a lovely mixture of chain and independent restaurants/cafes, and have a local train station. Plus we’re only 20 minutes away from Manchester.

I know it’s not to everybody’s taste, but we love the vibe here and are really sad to be leaving.

We need to be somewhere in this circle ideally. We are completely newbies when it comes to this area - are there any places here that are like Cheshire?!

I met my Husband from a Very wealthy Cheshire Family at Keele University...

How is it relevant to the thread?

You said you were from Kent. Stoke might rhyme with Kent but it's not in effing Kent is it.

And Keele is not in Stoke, it's Newcastle-under-Lyme.

redange · 11/02/2026 01:05

Yes Keele is Newcastle Under Lyme..... I more Hanley than Goostrey...

I am very aware of where Keele University is situated, @redange .

I am only having a bit of fun.

When my parents came up to visit me they always got lost coming off at Junction 16 rather than 15 which of course was next to the Post House Hotel...

My dad would drive for 4 plus hours (the roads were not as busy then) and declare that Stoke and Newcastle were the most dismal places in the Country. That is also including Oldham..

Your posts do too. Smile

Wallingford is that in the triangle where a load of Public Schools are located ?

NamingNoNames · 11/02/2026 01:18

Wallingford is nice but not on a railway line AFAIK. I think Goring might be the nearest station.

Allaboutthecats · 11/02/2026 02:01

Not Goring by sea though. Luton might be more fun.

piscofrisco · 11/02/2026 07:31

Stamford is the place you need.
