Shed (dis)organisation

Looking ahead to the warmer months, AIBU to wonder how anyone keeps their shed organised?!

I was pottering in the garden earlier and needed a broom to sweep up leaf litter. Upon entering the shed I was horrified at the volume of stuff we’d accumulated, and the lack of organisation.

We’ve played at DIY for the last few years and different jobs have required different equipment. This has meant we’ve started to collect different tools…but it’s less this ‘bigger clutter’, and more the countless nails/screws which come in different sizes, and packs of 100s (I guess to justify the prices).

So does anyone have a system for organising it all ie tiny boxes/drawers for the little bits almost like an old school haberdashery set up, or do you just use said items for the intended job and then donate/sell/get rid by whatever means. Of course this would mean repurchasing things in the future but TBH we end up doing this most of the time because we can’t locate the tools/paraphernalia needed.

Please share any tips on how you approach this or does everyone just have essentially an outdoor junk drawer in the form of a shed?

Cheap metal shelving system. Plastic storage boxes with lids. Chuck out all rubbish, sort good stuff into boxes and write on them what they contain eg Nails/screws, Electrical stuff, plumbing, decorating etc.

Hooks on walls, hang up everything you can. Put a light in there, you can get cheap battery LED ones. Sweep floor, feel smug, have a cuppa.

I use jars for all the different size/type screws etc

@Bikergran thank you this is the kind of plan I was after!
