New bathroom

Just looking for advice on moving forward with this. Decided to use a local business for a new bathroom fit, small bathroom to replace tiles and fittings. Was told it would take him 3 to 4 days originally, started 5th Jan, spent a lot of time in and out to get stuff for the job, arrived every morning no earlier than 10.30, charges £400 per day. Had a ski holiday booked for 2 weeks after starting job which we didnt think would be an issue as he should have been finished by then but wasn't. Never mentioned about us having to get rid of rubbish and has continually put rubbish in ours and neighbours bins after being asked not to. Then booked a week to do some filming even though still not finished so we have another week of no bathroom, thank fully it isn't the main bathroom but is an ensuite for my sons bedroom and so he has had to put up with his bedroom being a bit of a bombsite. To top it all some neighbours came round today to complain as he had been cutting tiles behind thier car leaving it covered in a film and some debris. He is back on 16th to finish it, he says in 2 to 3 days, I am not convinced basing it on the job so far but is this typical?

It is definitely not typical and he should not book in other long commitments that will leave you without a bathroom! But sounds like your best bet is to let him just come back and hope its 2-3 days and done - and buy your neighbour a bottle of wine to say sorry for the mess

He sounds rubbish, but I don’t think it ever would have taken 3-4 days to retile and refit a bathroom.

Have agreed a total price that is based on £400 day x expected number of days?

Or is he going to invoice you for how many days he’s done? Because that sounds very open to disagreement on his current work pattern.

£400 is labour so at the end of each day he messages me with receipts from materials bought and how much his labour was, ocassionly when it was obvious he hadn't put in a full day he would charge £375 or £300. He originally said 3= 4 days but it keeps extending, even said to my husband that the lino would only take a couple of hours but then again it may take a whole day!! Think we are going to ask for a face to face with him before he starts back and explain what we expect and tell him no more payments till the job is finished
