And not telling people. People only guess when they haven’t heard from them and check is very high risk and needs to be in hospital for their mental health as they aren’t reaching out for help.

It’s very hard to get admitted to hospital these days for mental health.

Well if they're not telling anyone or reaching out for help then nobody is going to help them. Services are limited enough for those who actually are seeking help.

It's very difficult to get an inpatient bed in a psych ward. Even if you're doing harmful behaviour there may be others who are worse taking up the limited beds. It's a real shame but NHS MH care is stretched to the max.

I’m broadly of the view that if people want to do dumb shit then as long as they’re the only person at risk, they should be allowed to do it. Presuming this person knows the risks of taking too much medication, or is actively trying to kill themselves, and doesn’t want any help, then that’s their business.

You could refer to adult social services, they may not investigate. Sadly, there is not much you can do other than speaking directly to the person who is over medicating.
Adults self medicate all the time.

Unless they are permanently in hosputal or care they will always run the risk of od.

Not really could be in a crisis period

Depends if they have a treatable mental illness eg schizophrenia, bipolar disorder also whether they have the capacity to understand the risks of what they are doing.
Many people self medicate with alcohol, drugs or self harm to cope. It may seem unadvisable to everyone else but ultimately their own choice.

MissMoneyFairy · 08/02/2026 22:33

What meda do they overdose on, are the doctors and ogarmacy aware they od, what happens when they leave hospital and are back home again.
