Thoughts on laser eye surgery for short sighted

Has anyone has laser eye surgery for myopia (short sighted)? If so was it successful, are you happy you had it or do you regret it? Also is it recommended for younger or older people or makes no difference?

Apologies for all the questions. Just wondering if there's risk or if it would be worth having it done.

Thanks in advance.

Following this, early 50's, I have -13 & -11 short sight. Would love to get it corrected but scared I'll end up worse. Also have floaters. Been looking into ICL (implantable contact lens) surgery which is good for high prescriptions.

I had it done when I was 24 - which is 20 years ago now. My vision is still perfect, just have slight astigmatism but not bad enough for glasses.

@KookyMoose did your eyes end up worse than they were before having the laser or just back to how you original sight was?
Also could you not have it done again?

My eyes are about the same as pre surgery. I wouldn't want it done again because they have to make a flap on the front of the eye and I'm scared that it wouldn't heal quite as well the second time around. I've already dislodged the flap on one eye and that was horrific.

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads What made you not suitable if you dont mind me asking? I didn't realise some peope are not suitable.

1- Very dry eyes; the surgeon was didn’t think that my eyes would heal well, or ever be comfortable. He gave me drops to try for 2 months + Omega 3,6,9 to see if this improved the dryness of my eyes. I went back after 2 or 3 months. My eye dryness hadn’t improved (4 years of drops and Omegas later it has, but probably not enough).
2- History of Posterior Vitreous Detachment, made the risk associated with any eye surgery too high for him to be happy with.
3- My prescription, - 5, -7. He was able to improve my eyesight, but not to the extent I wouldn’t need specs of some sort.

He was also a bit concerned about the (tiny) physical size of my eyeballs, but would have worked with it if everything else had been in order. There might be something in this, as I have also got jawbones too shallow for dental implants.

Regarding point 2, he said that if I ever needed my cataracts doing, to come back, and he’d consider implantable contact lenses, if my eyes needed opening up anyway, so the benefits of prescription + clarity would outweigh the risks of surgery.

Hi, I had it and it worked fine. Had 20/20 vision for 20 years. Now need reading glasses. I was told I would.
distance vision is still absolutely fine.

I had it done 10 years ago. Best decision ever as I was sick of wearing contact lenses every day.
