Bullying claim put in at work about a manager.

Absolutely not substance and worried how it's going to affect team morale.

Any words of wisdom?

Worst thread ever. Be vague OP but you need to have more information. Your thread is the equivalent of posting on Facebook that men ain’t shiz don’t message me because I won’t tell you more post. Jeeezzzz

Employees are allowed to raise complaints about their line manager.

It is not for you to decide whether the complaint is fair or not and you should just get on with your job.

It will be investigated and there is no basis for the complaint then this manager will be fine.

What sort of complaint would be made?

Just asking for advice.

What sort of complaint would be made?

Didn't you say it's a bullying complaint?

LlynTegid · 07/02/2026 16:02

I wonder if it is someone claiming reasonable instruction to do their job as bullying in the hope that any action about their poor performance can be dropped or postponed.

You are perfectly reasonable to have sympathy with someone who had a complaint made against them if you think it is vexatious.

Because we work full time in the office and I see everything. One person is incompetent..

In that case the investigation will show that the complaint is unreasonable/malicious. Yes it can be stressful being under investigation but if you know that your colleagues will tell the truth to the investigator and have a paper trail to support your version, there is nothing to worry about.

I guess that the complainant has been put on a PIP or similar and has retaliated, rather than pulling their socks up.

Notsosweetcaroline · 07/02/2026 16:07

Is this just another opportunity for you to gossip about it. Like it’s big drama and you need to share.

PinkPhonyClub · 07/02/2026 16:10

It is not that unusual for a person who needs performance management to do this, even if the manager has behaved scrupulously.

Either because they genuinely think it unfair regardless of whether it objectively is, or as a tactic to try and head off a PIP/try and negotiate an exit by throwing enough mud.

Apologies. I was trying to be vague but it didn't work.

It's not me, it's a manager but a subordinate.

I can't imagine how the manager must feel.

It's my manager who I share

Occasionally managers get complaints which are either unfounded or founded. There are probably very few managers that haven’t had a complaint or three, It is all part of people management and their job, not a big deal, you don’t need to worry about something that doesn’t affect you directly.

Boomer55 · 07/02/2026 16:27

If you’re not the complainant, nor the complained about, just stay out of it. Not your problem. 👍

We don't know, but YOU should, because you started this thread about the complaint!

MargaretThursday · 07/02/2026 16:41

Just because you haven't been bullied by her doesn't mean she isn't bullying someone else.

When I was bullied they were oh so careful not to let people that might stand up to them see - made it totally clear it was deliberate and they were aware of their actions.
When someone stops in the middle of what they were doing as someone walks in and says "do go on telling me about your weekend..." unfortunately the person coming in doesn't see anything other than a nice conversation, not what happened before.

So if you are asked to witness you say what you have seen. You treat neither of them any differently.
I wonder who told you, because unless you've been asked to witness, you shouldn't know.

GreenIsTheColourOfMyHoliday · 07/02/2026 16:55

I love it when the OP is super clear

Thumbup · 07/02/2026 18:17

@ThisSunnyWriter has been complained about, very very obviously!

Absolutely this.

The reason complaints get legs or are squashed happens when everyone and their dog rows in.

Let the process run it’s course as per policy. That’s the way to ensure fairness.

Lovingbooks · 07/02/2026 19:01

I wonder how you know about this if work were handling this professionally only HR, the investigator and the person making the grievance, the manager it’s against and any witnesses should be involved. You sound like your speculating in which case stop poking your nose in.

ohyesido · 07/02/2026 19:56

Is she a bully or did someone take exception to being asked to adhere to the terms of contract they signed ?

How do you know it is completely unfounded?
Whoever is investigating it has to do so with an open mind and investigate it fairly without prejudging.

greencheetah · 08/02/2026 08:37

Stay out of it.
