Best and worst WFH days and routines ? Just read a post where OP said she's in an office and can't take time to nip to buy bread or go to the dentist etc. I wfh 3 to 4 days and can do that easily but my hours never stop. I'll share my best and worst work days too but just curious. A while back I read about I think an IT consultant that worked from the gym daily and then did a class and sauna /steam for 90 mins (from 12), but she was already online from 8 or earlier. Care to share your best and worst days? Mine are very varied but I'm paid for deliverables not the hours put in

My job is very up and down so some weeks I’ll be working long days, evenings and weekends and barely have time to eat or go to the loo. Other weeks I’ll be really quiet, take a long lunch and skive off at 4pm to go to yoga. It just depends. I’m lucky that I’m senior enough to choose my own hours without scrutiny, although I’ve built up that trust over years. My company definitely gets its pound of flesh!

Wfh 4 days a week.
Start 8ish, 11 yo ds gets ready for school. Walk him to school (nice y6 chat time) this takes 16 mins there and back. Meetings, etc all day. 20 mins lunch sometimes I don't get one. I have coffee and wee breaks of literal 60 seconds as I have a one cup machine. I use my 20 mins to put some lunch in micro, move washing about, empty dishwasher, prep veg whatever needs doing. I usually let dc in from school, 3 min check in and work until 5. I accrue flexi to take 1 day a fortnight

I work condensed hours so I tend to be online by 7am, and work through. I don't work entirely from home, I have face to face meetings I have to travel to, and I'm actually glad I do - as there's always so much to do that once I get 'in the zone' at home I barely move! If I have a full day at home I can find i start at 7am, eat lunch at my desk and still be online at 7pm. I'm not doing that out of any loyalty to my boss, I genuinely find my work interesting and there's so much of it that I think 'oh I'll just finish x while I'm here so I have less to do tomorrow' and of course I do the same the next day instead of finishing earlier.
I do have flexi time so if I really need to I can say, book a dentist appointment, though I would never 'pop out' places from home generally, I'm too busy and it would take too long!

My work is really inconsistent, some weeks I'm working long hours, others I feel like I'm twiddling my thumbs. I do go into the office sometimes but WFH looks like this. On a busy week I start work at about 7.30am and maybe finish at 6pm. I grab lunch, maybe shove some washing in the machine. Literally at my lap top all day Quiet weeks I start at 8am, take a long lunch and go for a walk or finish at three. I try and balance out the hours I work across a month, I'm too senior to get toil.

Start at 9 and work through until 6 or later. Quick break to make a coffee once in the morning and once in the afternoon with 30 mins for lunch. I have too much to do!

TwoBagsOfCompost · 07/02/2026 22:48

WFH three days a week. My job is fairly flexible, in the sense that I can start at 9:30 (and finish at 5:30 obvs). 40 min lunch break. I also make 4-5 cups of tea through the day, and have it at my desk working, so that's an additional what 5-10 mins total. I get carried away working and forget to stop, regularly working late. I need to be reminded to log off.

I work from home full time in a global business, so almost everyone I work with is also a remote worker. My work is very cyclical, there's one week of the month I could finish early/start late, take a longer lunch etc but other weeks where I realised I haven't nipped to the toilet all day or had chance to make a quick sandwich. Swings and roundabouts.

WFH basically all the time with a bit of travel. Fairly even/predictable hours. I usually work 8-5ish and a half day on a Friday (that’s in my contract). Always have the first hour or so of the day as quiet time so I get some work done. On a good day I have a decent amount of gaps between meetings, on a bad day I’m struggling to find a lunch break but I always have some sort of proper lunch break. I get all my housework done during the working week (quick hoover break, chuck some laundry in etc).

If I have appointments I try and do them on my free afternoon but I can also fit them into my working day if necessary.

my job is really busy with a high workload and senior, but I’m lucky in that I can control it a bit because no one can do anything without it coming through my team so I can dictate the timings of meetings rather than having to work to everyone else’s timetables. I get to set the definition of “urgent”!

bad days are travelling days - either travelling on work time or fitting in a commute to the office - I don’t have time for either! Those weeks/days are always very stressful.

Madarch · 07/02/2026 23:21

Most of my days are the same
7.30 get up/coffee
8.00 take dogs for long walk or attend online uni lecture (alternates)
9.30 wash up last night dishes. Make bread dough and put on to prove
10.00 start work
11.00 knock out bead and put on for second prove/make a brew
11.05 back to work
11.30 chuck bread in oven
11.31 back to work
12.00 get bread out of oven
12.01 back to work
12.30 lunch with fresh bread
1.00 back to work
5.00 finish work
5.15 walk dogs again

Once a month I travel across two days to go to a 2 hour in person meeting that doesn't actually need me to be there 😐

Wincher · 07/02/2026 23:31

I work 6 hours a day so a bit easier for me than if I was full time. I try to get some exercise every day when WFH, have to make that more purposeful now that both kids are at secondary and take themselves to and from school. I usually start at 8.30, then at 12/12.30 go for a run/swim/walk, come back, get my lunch and back at desk by 2. Finish in theory at 4, often later. We have to work core hours of 10-12 and 2-4 but can be flexible round that.

Ponderingwindow · 07/02/2026 23:39

I wfh exclusively and started long before Covid. I bill my time to clients in 6 minute increments. My employer really doesn’t care when I work, just that I get the work done and bill my hours. As long as I show up to meetings and I am generally accessible, I have complete discretion over my schedule. That means I set my own hours and am free to run errands or attend appointments. In exchange for that freedom, when we have an emergency at work, I drop everything in my life except minimal sleep and work around the clock. My husband has to pick up the slack at home.

I’ve always had this kind of job as an adult. Even when I was in the office, I set my own hours.
