I screamed at my friend

Going through a rough time and I confided in my friend. Talking about DH and she said “he’s a waste of space”. I agreed with her. She then followed up with “a massive waste of space”. I said “yep”. Then she carried on … over and over …

Honestly, he’s a waste of space. Just a waste of space, seriously a waste of space. Nothing more than a waste of space. Literally a waste of space …

I could feel myself getting angry (not at what she was saying but the repetition of it) and in the end I snapped and screamed “yes!!! I get it!!!”

She said “Jesus! I’m trying to help!” I was unreasonable wasn’t I?

That repeated over and over again would have got on my nerves, she sounds like a toddler

WhatNoRaisins · 07/02/2026 08:38

Taking the repetition at face value it would really freak me out if someone sat there and literally repeated themself and weren't responsive to me. I like to think I'd stay calm and walk away.

I hope you weren't near a large chapel, the screaming that goes on in those places is bonkers

Did she actually say it like that or were you talking in between? If she just said it like that, she sounds annoying but you still overreacted. If you were talking in between, she was presumably trying to sound supportive and you overreacted.

YWBU

She actually said if like that - repeating the same phrase over and over again. After initially agreeing with her I stopped talking and she still carried on doing it.

it was a frustrated scream

Screamed? Really?

Were you shaking and crying too?

Gosh there's a lot of hyperbole on MN.

Could not agree more. Hard to wade through the hyperbolic language at times to understand the seriousness of a post. Why do people feel it necessary to completely over exaggerate to make a point?

pinkyredrose · 07/02/2026 14:07

She's probably sick of you whinging about him. Why are you with him if he's so awful?

Bubblebather89 · 07/02/2026 14:10

Screamed really? You need to get a grip. Personally I’d have just stared at her open mouthed and waited till she had finished.

Pinkissmart · 07/02/2026 14:21

Just apologise and move on

I have a friend who will repeat stuff, usually a comment someone has made or jokes. The jokes annoy me the most to be honest, she will repeat those till their death! I do have to grit my teeth sometimes to not tell her to give it rest. But I love her and she’s not a bad person so most of the time I just smile and nod. She’s very socially anxious, constantly thinks she’s being judged by everyone for everything so I don’t know if this this some kind of fitting in thing, like if someone else has made a comment or joke and they got a good reaction she sees them as “safe”.

Loveing · 07/02/2026 14:29

She carried on saying it over and over for you to get the hint, she sick of you moaning over and over about the same thing.

Taste of your own medicine.
