Worried about car insurance claim?

Tunnocks34 · 05/02/2026 21:25

Last night my husband reversed off our driveway into the front of someone’s Car. parked and empty(Going maybe 2mph)

We had a look, couldn’t see any damaged but gave her our number and address. She said she’d text us once she’d looked at it. Anyway, she text today to say she had noticed damages and wanted to get it fixed - we informed our insurer and admitted full liability.

We’ve since has this email and I am worried. I cannot see any dispenses on my policy except my husband has recently changed job locations meaning his mileage has gone up - which I updated.

Only other thing it could possibly be is when logging the claim under my husbands name and for his car it asked if we had any other claims on the policy - as it is a multi car policy and I had a crash two years ago I clicked yes. Not sure if this would cause an issue or not.

Does this seem like our insurance will be cancelled or is it just standard?

Bump in a panic!

We aren’t going to be able to tell you what they mean or what they’ve flagged but if you’ve been totally honest with them and changed things as circumstances have changed then I’m sure whatever they have flagged will have an innocent explanation and you’ll be able to explain.

Please don’t panic!

WelcometomyUnderworld · 05/02/2026 21:56

If you’re confident there’s no discrepancies, their team will probably review and there will be nothing further.

If they think there’s an issue they’ll let you know and you’ll presumably offer proof that they’re mistaken.

When did you update the mileage? After the crash? Has he already gone over his insured annual mileage?

Tunnocks34 · 05/02/2026 22:05

Yes updated after the crash. He probably has to be honest. It just didn’t even enter my head to contact the insurance company - I would have spotted it when we get our renewal documents and updated it then of course but it never once entered my head to update them when his office changed location. It isn’t a drastic increase in miles.

Only other thing I can think that would have flagged up would be like I say, the previous claim, but this wa handled through them and I have logged it as part of this claim, or the fact I have put down a different mobile number on the claim to the one on the policy as it’s easier to contact my husbands work phone during the day. I don’t know. Genuinely no clue at all what it could be if that’s not it

Are you certain you are covered SDP and commuting? A lot of modern policies don't include commuting unless you specifically ask and are just SDP out of the box.

Tunnocks34 · 05/02/2026 22:23

Yes very certain - I always include it and when I got the email I doubled checked this.

Or if they have got wind of the change of commuting location.

Usually it is just commuting to one location (which is daft considering how many people might work across multiple sites). So I have no idea what happens if you change the one location mid-term - does it still count as one location (as it's only one at a time) or multiple?

Tunnocks34 · 05/02/2026 22:32

No it’s still one location, there was just a change in offices - his original office was 2 miles from our house and his new one is 7.

only other thing I can think is that when I submitted the claim I didn’t know the other drivers name so I left it blank. In my husbands panic he took her number, email address, number plate and pictures but no name.

she has since contacted me to say admiral have contact her to proceed with the claim

“he took her name … but no name” ?

Edit: OK, you have edited it now

NotAnotherScarf · 05/02/2026 22:45

The distance of commute will make no difference. If you have been completely honest to the best of your knowledge...the was an insurance ombudsman case many years ago. The husband had been banned for drink driving and didn't tell his wife...as she took the policy and answered to the best of her knowledge and belief the insurer had to pay the claim.

Tunnocks34 · 05/02/2026 22:56

oh yes absolutely we have been honest to best of ability. Car insurance is never something I’d toy with.

very confusing email - I will ring in the morning and come back with an update!

It will be fine. Unless you’ve not disclosed a conviction or another accident don’t worry. The fact they’re continuing with your claim whilst they take a look means it’s nothing serious. You’d be amazing at the amount of shite we get told in a claims dept

Tunnocks34 · 06/02/2026 08:14

Spoke to insurance company - it was a generic email because I put down I’d had a previous claim but it wasn’t showing on their system. As they’d handled the claim themselves, the underwriters have already reviewed it and overwritten it so no issue at all.
