I have been for something I shouldn’t have been

OP posts:
LucyLoo1972 · 05/02/2026 18:49

well I have in a sense. I have severe PTSD and had a psychotic breakdown. Im ashamed to say I have sometimes been shouting out in the night and saying I want ot die and shouting at my husband blaming him for things to do with the breakdwon. My neighbours called the police to get them to check what was going on as I think they suspected domestic abuse. the police came in and were very kind. im in a terribel terribel place as I was never like this Meroe my breakdwon.

FreshInks · 05/02/2026 18:55

What do you mean you shouldn’t have been? Was the report false?

SardinesOnButteredToast · 05/02/2026 18:58

Yes. My landlady when I was a student told the police I was a lady of the night. I wasn't taking money for it, I was just a popular girl. Fun all round and I look back on those days with fondness.

AwfullyGood · 05/02/2026 19:05

Once for a house party in college and deservedly so. Was young and stupid and inconsiderate of neighbours.

Second time working in retail when I got a credit card referral on the machine to ring Mastercard/Visa. They told me it was a stolen card and hang on to it so I referred it to my mamager. The lady went mental and called police. They then also rang credit card company who confirmed and they took her away with them as she tried to assault one of them.

Allaboutthegirliguess · 05/02/2026 19:06

Yeah all foesterbchold called 999 saying id hit them

Got cleared up pretty soon as was obvious they were lying. But still traumatic and I didnt get good support.

MargaretThursday · 05/02/2026 19:13

Yes! At any rate they ranted on FB and said they had.

I was involved in a big event where we'd put banners/posters up all over the place. This lady had offered to have one of the banners on the grassy area outside her garden on public land.

A few weeks after the event, and the banner, despite us asking many times was still there. So, on the way home from work (in the dark) I stopped off, carefully removed the banner, leaving behind all the fittings.

The next morning on the local FB I was alerted to a rant about the person who stole the banner who apparently had been caught on their CCTV and was dressed head to toe in black etc and she had reported to the police for stealing.
The comments underneath were very funny as lots of people tried to point out that the event was well over, so why was she bothered.

Ah, I had one of those!

When I was a student, I shared a flat with a male friend.

The fella on the other side of the landing was a right mad old git and was constantly haranguing us about one thing or another (we were students, but very well-behaved and weren't in the habit of throwing wild parties or leaving bin bags in the close or anything).

One night, I got a knock on the door and there was a couple of coppers on the doorstep (admittedly looking a bit sheepish), who said they had had reports of prostitution taking place at our address.

Turns out the mad old git had decided that my male flatmate was my pimp and the male friends we had visiting from time to time were punters.

I assume the police had a fairly stern word with said mad old git about wasting police time, because we never heard a peep out of him again.

AngelCakesSs · 05/02/2026 19:17

My neighbours called the police on me because I was out looking for my kitten in the night.

GrumpyOldCrone · 05/02/2026 19:21

Yes, once. I hadn’t done what they said I did, and CCTV showed they were lying, so it was all just a bit boring really.

TakeTheCuntingQuichePatricia · 05/02/2026 19:22

Someone told me he would, but I never heard from them so who knows. Really odd situation actually.

I got a text from a number I didn't know thanking me for a "fun weekend". So the poor guy didn't think he was being ghosted I replied to let him know he had the wrong number, I hadn't had a "fun weekend" with anyone and had been at work. We ended up messaging for a while (no, i have no idea why either!) And then he started telling me he'd told his young daughter all about me and how she was really excited to have a new step mum to do things with. So I backed off, told him that was weird.

He then accused me of being a bad mum who was putting my DC in Danger and that he'd report me to the police. All he knew was my first name and mobile number. Fucking weirdo.

Navybluecoat · 05/02/2026 19:26

My neighbour rang the police on us for not clapping during covid

What she didnt know was my darling fil was dying and it was 'get here now or don't get to say goodbye'

She was clapping like a seal on her doorstep when she saw us leave, upset and panicking that we wouldn't make it in time

So the mad bitch rang the police on us and they came out a fortnight later

She told everyone she'd done it so our landlord would throw us out

That's impossible as we own our house (no mortgage) but she doesn't know that and really thinks that by stirring the pot, she'll get us thrown out

Ill never forgive her as she made a really hard time impossible for us-it was the last thing we needed

Still cant believe they didnt tell her to fuck off

Another neighbour (different house) rang the police on me for playing loud music (id been at school with her and she was an evil bitch even back then)

I wasn't even at home-i was on holiday 100 miles away with my kids-the police had words once they'd rang me and I confirmed where I was

She got her revenge by setting off fireworks aimed at my bedroom window

We moved away

NorthernDancer · 05/02/2026 19:29

A neighbour who was stalking me reported my BF (now DH) for assault and me for robbery. No truth in either allegation, but awkward at the time.

PurpleLovecats · 05/02/2026 19:30

Yes for MH issues, I see and hear angels that tell me to harm others and myself so if people hear this, they call the police.
also for parties at uni

freshstartdreamer · 05/02/2026 19:31

After my ex was arrested for assaulting me, he retaliated by saying I’d hit him with a hockey stick. I didn’t own a hockey stick and don’t think he did either. The police took no notice of him. He then got himself arrested a second time so I think they got the measure of him 🙄

PurpleFlower1983 · 05/02/2026 19:36

Yes, for a domestic. I had a cheating, abusive ex. That night he threw me against a wall and cracked the plaster, kicked me hard in the stomach and leg and spat in my face. This was because he was threatening to leave and kill himself and I blocked his way. There was a commotion and the neighbours reported it. When the police arrived I was hysterical and he was cool as a cucumber, the psychotic cunt. They took me to my parents’. I showed them the bruises but couldn’t actually go ahead with reporting him. I was young and very stupid.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 05/02/2026 19:36

The police turned up to some of our uni house parties and dispersed them. At the time I thought I was being persecuted for being fun, but looking back I was actually just a little shit. I was also told off as a teen for graffiti, but I don’t think I was reported I think I was just stupid. The police officer also kicked my cider into the river, but they didn’t arrest me so could’ve been worse.

DallasMinor · 05/02/2026 19:43

I hit my ex husband in the head with a fire poker. He was drunk and high and trying to take our baby.

I was arrested the next day but I have no regrets.

FMLGFastMovingLuxuryGoods · 05/02/2026 19:45

Yes, we are living next to absolute fruitcake neighbours (thankfully moving next month), who have called the police saying we have slashed their tyres, tried to run them over, have had secret cameras installed to spy on them and we have chased them round the street Benny Hill style. Obviously none of this is true but our crime is that we are using a parking space that is part of the deeds of the house, a parking space they used to use because the previous owners let them, and when we said “no that can’t continue” they’ve basically had a 3 year tantrum

The police have knocked on us a few times to check we aren’t criminals but seem to largely ignore them now.

HowardTJMoon · 05/02/2026 19:52

I went to the police station in my motorbike to make a complaint about the behaviour of a couple of officers I'd witnessed. As I was leaving a police car came tearing out of the car park and stopped me. Apparently the person on the front desk thought they could smell alcohol on my breath (which was impressive given the glass screen in the way) and was about to ride away.

The officers who stopped me didn't have a breathalyser(?) and nor was there one in the station(??) so we had to wait 20 minutes at the side of road for another car to bring one. Eventually it turned up, I got breathalysed and of course I passed because it was all just time-wasting bollocks. The best bit was that it was a bitterly cold night but I had thermals on, leathers, and a coat over the top so I was toasty. The officers who were stood shivering by the side of the road didn't even have jackets. Twats.

FMLGFastMovingLuxuryGoods · 05/02/2026 19:54

This will also be outing but it’s funny so I’ll share - at Uni I shared a house with 2 housemates (both English - relevant), one of whom had a nasty obnoxious Portuguese (relevant) boyfriend. He used to come in the house, slag off “English girls” and say we are all slappers and tramps, that Portuguese girls are better etc, and would also moan his head off because we we’re watching the soaps. When we said “Well go to Becky’s room to watch TV then” he said no, he liked to watch TV on a sofa. This went on every night for about a month and Becky thought he was just being funny and silly. He’d also eat all our meat and make a mixed grill for breakfast and never replace the food.

Anyway one day Becky and Misogynist went out clubbing and me and my other housemate stayed in to watch the Pop Idol final. When they came back, he was being rude about our TV choice, saying we were brainless English girls etc and making “la la la” noises when Ant and Dec were about to announce the winner. We told him to fuck off and he called us slags before going upstairs to Becky’s room

In short - we wanted revenge and were quite drunk so filled his shoes and jacket pockets with Branston pickle. Watching him discover it the next day (the squelching sound the shoes made when he stuck his misogynistic feet in, followed by all this Branston pickle shooting out, is the funniest thing I’ve ever witnessed) was one of the best moments of my life 😂

Anyway he went beserk, and called the police. They came round investigating criminal damage (apparently the jacket and shoes were make of Portuguese leather) but when we told the female police officers the whole story they decided to drop it (doubt that would happen these days!) and we never saw him, or Becky, ever again.

TomatoSandwiches · 05/02/2026 19:57

What did you not do op?

Figcherry · 05/02/2026 20:09

Our last home had a very large garden.
Every year, but only once a year, in summer we would have a party for friends and our dc friends.
Although we had music it wasn't loud and it went off at 10pm.
At 11pm most people left or we went indoors.
We put notes through all our near neighbours doors with all the information, some of the neighbours were invited.

Every single year a ndn, we never knew who for certain but had a good idea, would ring the police who would send the community officers.
Every time the police agreed that we were not rowdy and the music was not too loud.

fabgirlfire · 05/02/2026 20:13

Yes. I was arrested when my two ex partners teemed together and made up a story that I had shared images of one of them.

a nice long 12 hours in the cells and ultimately all dropped when they checked my phone and realised they were lying bastards.

it was very public and traumatic but I knew I hadn’t done anything wrong.

naemates · 05/02/2026 20:16

For breaking into a Royal Mail trolley that was tied up to a lamppost, I was the manager and the postie had lost the keys Grin

blankcanvas3 · 05/02/2026 20:18

When I was 19 I was severely anorexic and went into psychosis, escaped out of my house where my parents had been trying to keep me until they could get me into a ward somewhere. Somebody phoned the police when I was acting erratically, they were absolutely awful. They arrested me and I spent 14 hours in a cell, I had dislocated my own thumb to get out of the handcuffs and was clearly extremely poorly but they didn’t want to know. It took one of the more senior police officers at the custody suite to recognise I actually needed medical attention. I was sectioned shortly afterwards and police admitted I should never have been in custody after my parents complained. Parents were going out of their mind with worry because they had reported me missing and vulnerable and despite the fact I had been booked and was in the police system, nobody let them know until over 36 hours later.
