Vinted buyer reselling at a higher price

I occasionally put items on vinted if they are in very good condition. I previously took them to a charity shop but our local one has closed and I found recently that charity shops in general are charging very high prices. So, in total, I have sold about 8 items in the last 4 months or so.
It's great for some extra income, and I like to feel that they are being used again, and possibly going to people that may not want to buy, or can afford to buy new. I always go low on price so most things sell, lower than similar priced items.
Here is my question. I sold something recently, not yet shipped. For some reason, I decided to look at the buyer profile and it looks like they purchase and resell at a higher price. I don't know how I feel about this. On one hand, once its shipped, I don't really care what happens to it, on the other hand, it bugs me that someone is making money off me. I could pitch the price higher but I don't like to push my luck and the item could help someone out at a reasonable price.
What is the general consensus?

Capitalism 🤷‍♀️

hazelnutvanillalatte · 05/02/2026 18:08

Some people are resellers. Others might not want to keep an item for whatever reason so relist a bit higher. It is what it is

Mumstheword1983 · 05/02/2026 18:10

Some people make a living out of this. Same with charity shops. Some people buy to resell at a profit.

Someone bought a bundle of 10 items from me and I could see they were going to relist to make a profit. I don't care tbh. I can see why it's annoying but I want rid of the items and it made me a bit extra holiday money 😊

nomas · 05/02/2026 18:11

YABU. You can charge more if you want to but you can’t be annoyed at what someone does after they buy your item.

They take a risk that the item may not sell, so they should have a reward.

Check your items and price them properly.

Or do you see Vinted more as a community who should charge small prices?

TheInkIsBlackThePageIsWhite · 05/02/2026 18:12

You're getting what you want for it, what difference does it make if they resell it, burn it or wear it on their head for eternity?

idontgetitdoyou · 05/02/2026 18:13

YABU some people literally do this for a living. Once they've bought it it's theirs to do as they please with it, if you feel you're under pricing after seeing this then price a little higher.

StealthMama · 05/02/2026 18:14

Resale is a completely legitimate business model.

havingoneofthosedays · 05/02/2026 18:15

I'm a reseller, my main source for stock is not vinted but l do pick up bargains to resell 🤷🏼‍♀️

fartoomuchtoblerone · 05/02/2026 18:15

It’s their prerogative. I’ll price something based on what I think will get it to shift quickly cos that’s my priority. Their priority might be to maximise the sale price and they don’t mind hanging onto it until they get that price. Fine, that doesn’t affect me.

TeaRoseTallulah · 05/02/2026 18:16

Tbh it doesn't matter how you feel about it,it's how every shop/ market there is works.

Chisbots · 05/02/2026 18:17

They have spotted you've underpriced it, so are taking advantage and the risk of it not selling. As PP says, basis of the free market and capitalism.

bettyblackdog · 05/02/2026 18:17

The shop you bought the items from did the same thing to their supplier. What you do with it next is up to you. Same as buyers on Vinted.

Megifer · 05/02/2026 18:19

Your loss op. Im always scouting charity shops for bargains to resell on Vinted. I dont deliberately buy off Vinted to resell but sometimes I dont like whatever it is so will chance putting it on higher if I think its worth it 🤷‍♀️

Shufflebumnessie · 05/02/2026 18:50

If it gets unwanted crap out of my house, I don't care what the buyer does with it.
Occasionally I've bought something on Vinted that doesn't fit/suit me and I've relisted it at a slightly higher price then I paid to cover the postage/buyer protection fee.

Hollietree · 05/02/2026 18:58

No-one has a problem with people making a career out of buying antiques and selling them for a higher price. There are TV shows on the concept. I don’t see anything different with doing this with clothes etc on vinted.

I often give things away for free on local online websites (furniture, bags of clothes etc). I want to get rid of them asap and I know if I give them for free they will be collected the same day. I have no problem if they want to then take time and effort to resell them. Win win for us both.

DiscoPants2000 · 05/02/2026 19:04

I’ve had this happen a few times - the only thing I don’t like is when they try to haggle me down more. I stick to my guns & once I’ve made what I want, I’m not fussed if they resell.

IngridBergmannn · 05/02/2026 19:05

I used to do this back in the day, on Ebay. Quite successfully. Not anymore, though.

I sell on Vinted now occasionally. My personal things, stuff I don't use anymore. I price my items as I see fit and accept reasonable offers. I get the price I want, and I'm happy. What the buyer does with the item doesn't concern me at all. They can burn it for all I care; it's theirs now.

GreenWheat · 05/02/2026 19:09

There is a whole industry around exactly this OP. You can even get a widget that alerts you to items listed at lower prices than average for that item. People literally sit there watching it.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 05/02/2026 19:11

I think you’re being very naive tbh.

TonTonMacoute · 05/02/2026 19:11

It's the way of the world.

Personally I want minimum hassle, I am pleased to get rid of things I no longer need or want, and get some money in exchange. If someone wants to go to the effort of selling it on for more, good luck to them. I couldn't get upset about it.

shiningstar2 · 05/02/2026 19:20

I sell cheaply on eBay. I sell cheaply because I want quick movement of said items. I am getting a 'profit' in a way because before eBay, those same items, doesn't matter how 'good' they were would have gone to a charity shop. I'm satisfied with the price I asked for. If someone else wants to go to the trouble of buying them then selling them on I'm only too happy that worn by new owner or sold on, they took are getting pleasure or profit from items I don't want.
You could always sell them at a higher price yourself if you are not bothered by a slower turn around.

loellajames · 05/02/2026 20:55

I do this all the time. Buy things that I know are worth way more and sell them on. What's the problem?

Exactly - it’s how every shop in the world makes a business. They buy things and then sell them at a higher price for a profit.

topcat2014 · 07/02/2026 15:01

I think you are struggling with there being a market economy, OP.

It may seem easy (and it's not something I do) but the resellers will probably have a whole lock up of clothes they have paid for. Some might sell for good prices, some mighty only end up being a loss.

If you are happy with your price, what's not to like?

Jk987 · 07/02/2026 15:37

You don’t want to push your luck by selling at a higher price but someone else does… therefore good luck to them…
