Need help with symptoms - pots?

I’m really in a state at the moment where I’ve been feeling unwell for a while and I’m confused.

i had a viral illness start of December which I experienced heart palpitations, breathlessness, fatigue and low energy. Since then, I’ve got constant heart palpitations, fatigue, low energy, a constant lightheadedness woozy feeling but I never wobble or lose my balance or faint. I also have very pale skin, lots of hair loss and achy muscles which twitch.

i went to the doctors after having a vertigo attack in bed when I had a full on congested cold and explained everything and he’s convinced I have pots. I mentioned my ferritin and said could all this be because I’m low and he shrugged it off. But all my symptoms point to low iron? My ferritin has ranged between 27ug/l and 48ug/l the last couple of years but I was on desogestrel and had no periods and now I’m off this and having periods again.

im also cold all the time especially hands and feet and have been waking up nauseous. I do have anxiety too.

im just really scared if it is pots or if I’m getting really scared for nothing if it’s just low iron and can be treated?

I’ve been anaemic before after having my daughter 7 years ago .

any help please x

Has your thyroid function been tested? Hypothyroid (under active) can cause hair thinning.

Yes my thyroid was checked in December and everything was ok with that they said.. thank you for highlighting this though. I’m just concerned with my ferritin level as it’s ranged between 27ug/l - 48ug/l the last 2 years but apparently stress can falsely raise it and I’ve been under extreme stress since starting a new job in September x

You need to lie down and then stand still for 10 minutes. You need to also use a blood pressure monitor (they are cheap).

So lie on your bed - I’d say for probably about 10 minutes to let your heart rate settle. Take your BP and HR (a blood pressure monitor does both).

Next stand up next to your bed and stay still for 10 minutes and take your BP and HR every 2 or 3 minutes within those 10 minutes.

If it’s POTS, your HR will rise by at least 30 for a sustained period and your BP wi stay much the same.

Thank you. Does blood pressure stay normal with pots? Or can low ferritin cause change in heart rate and blood pressure? Just trying to suss out what’s going on here. I didn’t really trust how the doctor dealt with the laying down to standing test and also completely shrugged off my ferritin before bloods have even been done (based it off results from 4th December)

I’m not sure. Try having a read here or other similar websites :

My BP is normal and I almost certainly have POTS but whether that’s the case for everyone, I have no idea.

I've had the tilt table test which was DX as Orthostatic hypotension even though I tested positive for pots. I also have high ferritin, low serum iron, hEDS, Sjogrens, fibromyalgia and possibly dysautonomia, chronic fatigue/me/chronic pain. ? long COVID. My symptoms went haywire after COVID and the Vax (tachycardia, fainting) but have improved now as I try to walk and reconditioned myself, although some days it's very hard. Look at Stars website for pots and orthostasis. As far as I understand it, I think 100 is optimal for ferritin?
