To consider Mounjaro to lose a stone

Piccalino3 · 04/02/2026 10:55

Before we get started, I appreciate that I may not even be able to find anywhere to prescribe it…..

For context my BMI is 23, but I am a stone heavier in the last 6 months and just feel so shit. I can’t stop eating absolute rubbish all the time due to stress.

I have successfully dieted in the past and lost weight, but peri, going through a very brutal divorce from a horrible man and all the uncertainty it brings, solo parenting 3 young kids (2 with SEN who are in crisis) and trying to work full time just means I have no capacity at all. I never get a moment to myself and am just utterly mentally and physically exhausted. I have the kids 95% of the time as their Dad refuses to see them apart from every other weekend.

I want to feel good again, in my clothes, I want to stop
annoying myself with terrible stress related food choices. My cholesterol is high and this is not helping.

Any words of wisdom? Not even sure I would find anywhere that would prescribe it, I’d much rather rather just lose the weight but just can’t right now.

Words of wisdom please anyone?

With a BMI of only 23 you are really going to struggle to get hold of anything remotely legal. I would say try Orlistat (Xenical) pills as this is much less dramatic, and is what massively helped me instead of jabs - much less strong but just gives you that extra push, as it blocks about a third of the fat you eat from being absorbed.

However, even that has become totally impossible to get hold of with a BMI of under 28 or so. I lost 2.5/3 stone on it, and wanted to continue it for maintenance but have been stopped. You need to take photos using the provider's own photo tool, hold up a newspaper with today's date, show your bare tummy, get a friend to verify you, you name it. Even a year ago it was nothing like this strict.

I suppose maybe a better question might be: how do you lose weight when you have absolutely no mental/physical capacity in your life? I really don’t have time to calorie count, listen to recordings etc. every waking minute of my time is taken by work/parenting an I don’t sleep enough, which also isn’t helping.

@PrincessHoneysucklehow did it work for you? What about when you came off of it? Just out of interest

Worked great.Im maintaining on 2.5.Most I was on was 7

JessieLongleg · 10/02/2026 18:25

If if had a high BMI I would lose a stone naturally I took it and brought myself down 35kg but put on 5-10 coming off it. So for a stone I would say not worth the effort.

ThisAmpleDenimCrab · 10/02/2026 18:51

I did it for a stone. Got it from a perfectly legal source, lied a bit about my weight. Sent photos of myself looking bloated. Made sure I was eating enough protein etc. Took only 1.5mg 3 times. Couldn’t be arsed with the gym etc. It absolutely is the easy way out!

Quite a few people do this and also knock an inch of their height.. No harm. The weight is a problem for OP and from everything she says she is going to get heavier. This could be a quick start to set her on the right path. It’s up to her to do the cost benefit analysis as she is the only one in a position to judge what these might be for her. . She might want to consider there are possible side effects. Been on it a while and am on 12.5. Can’t wait to get off it as my hair is thinning a little and I have bad constipation which I am managing with movicol but have to really monitor, but am losing weight and never feel hungry. Other people have other issues while some have no problems at all just a great way to lose weight.

Where on earth does this happen. Never heard of anybody doing this with any provider.

OP I really, really feel for you. You sound like you're having a shit time. I sympathize, I'm about a stone over and I know that if I didn't have such a full on life and a young child it would be no problem to get it off but there we are. I would never judge anyone for using these injections but as more and more side effects become known, think about the effect it could have on your life if something did go sideways, like pancreatitis or blindness (yes, rare but known) I've read about this and when I've recovered from my appalling tax bill, I might give it a try. Solidarity, the shit always seems to fall on mums, doesn't it?

I know I probably won’t be able to get it, not sure why I posted but just desperate to feel better.

I just don’t have the capacity to calorie count or give much thought to it at all. My life is a disaster atm, my ex is trying to punish me and I can barely cope with my kids and work. I have no time to cook for myself, I get back from work at 7pm and then have to start on putting the kids to bed which takes 2.5 hours, so that I can get on with household chores and more work. My clothes being tight and feeling crap is just topping it all off…. I just don’t know how to move forward to get back to me again.

Mounjaro isn’t a carefree ticket to weight loss. I have counted every calorie for almost 18 months now

Almost every medicine has dire warnings about possible side effects but people still take them. Most could probably soldier on without them as you don’t need pain relief and infections will usually go without antibiotics and you can suffer through hayfever etc etc etc but the meds make life bearable. Sounds like mounjara falls into that category for OP.

MeridaBrave · 11/02/2026 10:13

Unless your BMI is 27 it will be hard to get access to it.

Ukefluke · 11/02/2026 10:31

You wont be allowed it at a BMI of 23.

Ukefluke · 11/02/2026 10:43

RoundandSad · 04/02/2026 14:28

That BMI isn't overweight, is it?

Why would you want to take a horrible medication you're not even overweight

I know it's horrible. I'm on it! And about to stop because it's horrible.

They shouldn't even be a consideration for someone like you and where would you get it anyway only somewhere dodgy! They could be selling you anything and you're injecting it into yourself

Its not horrible for everybody.
I am now slim, no side effects, blood pressure healthy and off all autoimmune meds because it immediately killed my inflammation from the first jab.

I will stay on it now as long as i can get my hands on it. I was previously on pretty unpleasant immunosuppressant medication so nasty that I needed bloods every month to check it wasnt damaging organs. I was still in constant flare and pain regardless. Literally one MJ dose and my pain went and my skin healed. They will have to prise it from my cold dead hands to get me off it.

BeAmberZebra · 11/02/2026 14:03

I wish people would stop saying you won’t get it at that BMI or it would be a dodgy provider. Various posters have repeatedly pointed out that it is possible to get it from a reputable provider with a bit of imagination.
Other issues re possible side effects which some suffer are valid.
I do wonder if OP has considered that this stuff costs a lot of money and maybe she could use this cash for some help at home if she is really worried about side effects etc or access. Sorry if already raised.

Binus · 11/02/2026 14:22

I've not seen anyone say they got it from a reputable provider at BMI 23 with a bit of imagination. Closer to the margins, potentially.

Shedmed ask you to stand on scales rather than a photo so I guess could have dumbells down back of trousers. But yes would have to lie.

Baroluleni · 11/02/2026 16:07

Fasting is a no brainer here rather than Mounjaro.
i have joined Simple app and am fasting 18hours and only eating within 6hour time frame.
in 5 weeks I have lost 12lb.
appreciate, my BMI is a lot more than yours is, however it works. You can amend the time fasting more or less to suit yourself:
I have not restricted any items in my diet either apart from no longer having sugar in tea and coffee.

I still enjoy a doughnut and sausage roll from greggs!

Have you read OPs posts. There is no way she can fast for 18 hours! All these exercise, healthy eating posts are unhelpful until she start to feel better about herself. Maybe then she could take some of this advice although unlikely she can fast.

But losing the weight is a sticking plaster - OP needs to find some solutions to get herself out of the hole

I8toys · 11/02/2026 18:45

Not sure why you can't use it as those that have lost the weight continue to use it to maintain. So how does that work if their BMI is now too low to access it?

It is the starting BMI that dictates prescribing, not the ‘now’ point.

Agree, I haven’t found it horrible at all, barely registered side effects and have brought my bmi down from 35 and now sitting at a good spot for me.

Op I’m not going to give you any kind of a kicking, I think at this point in time there are more people than are going to admit it on here who have had more than a fleeting thought about it despite knowing they don’t meet the criteria. Your life sounds bloody full on right now.

Be as kind to yourself as you can be, focus on making very very small changes but being consistent about it. And I’d personally start by making yourself a healthy nutritious lunch for tomorrow this evening and putting it in the fridge. Something you’ll enjoy. Doesn’t remotely have to be joyless ‘rabbit food’, just something that will fill you up so you know objectively you can’t be hungry even if your mind tells you you might want a biscuit anyway for pudding.

And then think of one small exercise you can
commit to at home. I sometimes challenge myself on a wfh day to fit in 100
squats. I do them in sets of 20, takes no time at all, just a bit of commitment to make a healthier change.

Hi. I just wanted to give you an alternative. I know that you still sound very slim but I know it can feel hard when you have put on weight and your clothes don't fit. And also all the emotional upheaval of the split. I have lost 10 lbs since January after struggling to lose it for the last two years. I'm also peri, I have 4 kids and work as a teacher so often don't know if I am coming or going. I found what worked for me is removing the mental load--so i sat down and worked out how many calories I needed to eat to get to the weight I wanted (I used an online calculator for this) and then I worked out a set menu that I just eat every day that meets that. It sounds boring, but for the first time I am actually using the weight because I am not finding it stressful. So I have:

  1. Overnight oats for breakfast: I put a scoop of protein powder and about 100g of oats in a jar, add frozen blueberries and cover with milk. I make a few jars at a time and take it to work and eat some point in the morning.
  2. I make a pan of soup on Sunday and take that to work every day. It's healthy and filling. I also have a protein yoghurt.
  3. For tea I usually have a gym kitchen ready meal. i don't usually eat ready meals but they are all measure out calories and high protein so I fidn it easy. I have a protein yoghurt with raspberries from the freezer and honey for pudding.
  4. I am drinking loads of flavoured sparkling water as it feels like a treat but is about 50p a bottle.
All this works out about 1200 calories a day and 100g of protein. I give myself permission to cut corners with the ready meals and for now I'm not worrying about the plastic bottles or anything--I haven't space in my head for anything too complicated. It's also pretty cheap as the ready meals are something like 4 for £5 from Asda. I have a different one every day so it doesn't get boring and might add some veg or salad. I do know how to cook from scratch healthily so will probably do this once I am at my target weight.
Bigwhyfronts · 11/02/2026 19:53

If you can get through the first two weeks of quitting sugar (replace with salty snacks or whatever it takes to get through the cravings) you really can break the emotional reliance on sugar. I have lost nearly a stone over 6m after quitting sugar without feeling I have to deprive myself of food at all. I don’t miss it now, my hunger and moods are a lot more stable. I promise it is worth it if you can just do those first few weeks.

Binus · 11/02/2026 19:59

BeAmberZebra · 11/02/2026 18:39

See previous posts on this. It happens.

I must be missing it, which one? Saw someone at 25 BMI and another who lost a stone, but that can be the difference between 27 and healthy BMI if you're short.

Of course I'd always assumed there was a lot of this going on at the margins, especially as you can fluctuate your weight by a few pounds if you weigh before or after a shit, large meal, pints of water etc.
