...or stuff you now freeze that has been a game changer

I'll start:

  • Pesto portions. Dolloped in little tin foil parcels
  • Ditto cream cheese (only good for cooking with once defrosted tho)
  • A Fecking squeeze of fresh lemon 😂 for those poxy recipes that demand it
  • Single portions of mashed potato - freezes exceptionally well with double cream and butter. Game changer for single living.

One I learnt recently from watching Tim Spector:
Freezing cooked starches ie pasta, bread and rice transforms then from digestible to resistant starches (more like fibre). This reduces overall calorie absorption and glycaemic impact by up to 40%.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/02/2026 20:56

Leftover cheese sauce. I often make a bit too much on purpose, since it’s very nice in a lot of soups.

Garlic butter, leftover from making garlic bread. I just chip some off for basting a roast chicken.

I recommend the freezer lady on instagram, she’s brilliant. You’ll be shocked what you can freeze!

BoredZelda · 03/02/2026 21:03

There is pretty much nothing I don’t freeze. But my favourite is to make a chocolate orange rice pudding in the slow cooker and batch freeze single portions.

How do you store all the squeezes of fresh lemon? I have a vision of 30 little thimbles with foil on the top in your freezer 😆 🤣

Spinach if your cooking with it, I never used to use a full bag and ended up throwing it away

I'm interested in this one as I end up throwing most of the bag away. What do you do with it? Freeze it as it is (whole leaves)? What do you wrap it in, would a freezer bag do?

Chocolatebuttonanyone · 03/02/2026 21:08

Crumble mix. Easy to make a single portion at any time!

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 03/02/2026 21:10

Crisps! If you buy a massive bag and don't want to finish them all at once. They defrost mega quickly too

I freeze the whole bag as it is, then take however much I need out and reseal the bag with a clip

Cheersminesalargeone · 03/02/2026 21:11

Use ice cube trays instead of bits of foil, once frozen pop into ziplock bag.

Leavesandthings · 03/02/2026 21:12

Cooked brown lentils, so they are ready to add to recipes.

IsThisACrazyThoughtDec25 · 03/02/2026 21:13

Crumble topping, uncooked

JumpLeadsForTwo · 03/02/2026 21:15

Niche but Christmas pudding! The only one who really likes it, but I still buy a large pudding then freeze small portions with a dollop of brandy butter for when I fancy some!

Chiseltip · 03/02/2026 21:16

Dead Bodies . . . . . 😬🤐😐

Petitcha · 03/02/2026 21:17

Brie, cream.

Oh yes, cream! I always have a spare pint or two of milk in the freezer but only recently realised I could freeze cream

Frozen leftovers is my favourite way to put meals together. Usually have lasagne, rice, mashed potatoes, gravy, fresh herbs, ginger. Chives was the latest addition to my herb bag, I only buy them when I'm making potato salad and invariably I don't use a whole bunch.
If bananas are not going to be eaten in time then they are halved and a lolly stick put in them before dunking them in yoghurt and freezing. Saves me from having lollies when I have a sweet craving. No cake in the freezer currently <sad face>

@marriednotdead and then do you eat the yoghurt/banana combo straight out the freezer? how do you store them in the freezer, wrapped or just out? TIA!

Do you chop them up and put them in food bags first? Or just throw them in whole? 🤔🤣

Cheese
cream
bacon

Wine in ice cube trays for adding to recipes
Pizza dough
Pizza sauce

I love the pesto idea!

You are Martha Stewart and I claim my £5. There is no such thing as ‘left over’ wine to put in ice cube trays.

Cheeses of all sorts, hard cheeses tend to go crumbly but are still fine. I buy yellow stickered Camembert and freeze to bake them.

Pasta4Dinner · 03/02/2026 21:26

Coconut milk and haloumi are my new favourites. I struggle to use them up, now I just freeze them for 2 meals.

I have a bag of frozen lemon and limes. So if I use lemon in something, I often have half an unused one so I just add to the bag.

What’s her account called?

I don't drink wine but do use it in cooking! Plenty of leftover and this tip is great for me!

JustPlainStanfreyPock · 03/02/2026 21:32

Tofu - freezing actually firms up the texture and makes it better for stir frying. I cut it into cubes and freeze in stir-fry sized portions for 2, can go in straight from frozen or thawed.

I also freeze lemon wedges ready for use in tea or G&T

MindYourUsage · 03/02/2026 21:32

Things I am taking from all you helpful people:

  • crisps (what the hell? how did you find that one out!)
  • half a banana dipped in yogurt as replacement for Magnums
  • cooked lentils - you genius, you!
  • Tim Spectre's little nugget of wisdom @DuchessofStaffordshire 😮

But @GoldenRosebee I'm really confused.. what is 'leftover pasta?!' 😂
