Epstein and the Monarchy. Question?

AIBU to think the Epstein stuff proves why the monarchy shouldn’t exist?

Inherited privilege, public money, and somehow still “not our place” to demand accountability. Funny how equality before the law stops at the palace gates.

I hear you but the monarchy really is the least of it. They're a lighting rod for dissatisfaction over accountability (or lack of) but it pales in comparison to other things coming out at the moment (Mandelson)

I disagree the monarchy is the least of it.

Apart from his alleged sexual sordidness and the potential cover up inherent in that who knows what MW may have heard or passed on in his role as Trade Envoy?

Those papers need to be unsealed and examined in the same way as the Mandy details will be.

What about the links with Epstein to Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Donald Trump, Peter Mandelson, Richard Branson etc… Why single out the British monarchy?

Edited

Because it sits at the apex of society, and it consciously cultivates its own cachet, it's own rarified air, thus validating the notion of inequality, and promoting the idea that it's a good thing to be a member of an old boy network, or any other group that imagines itself to be set apart from the rest of humanity.

You think we should have someone like Trump instead?

Which monarch is named in the Epstein files?

Someone that can actually be voted out? Personally, yes, I would call that preferable to someone that can’t be.

Could be worse for the British monarchy tbf. Norway’s situation is arguably worse.

Which monarch is named in the Epstein files?

We don't need to find a named monarch in the Epstein files to list a litany of sex offenders patronised and defended by the current incumbent.

Abolishing it is the only way to end the era of untouchable mediocrity. It’s absurd that in 2026, we are still granting diplomatic immunity and state protection to people who don't even represent the best of our country, let alone its laws. Dealing with the wider elite (I hate this word) problem is a massive task, but removing the hereditary layer is the most logical place to start. Why are we subsidizing a lifestyle for people who are effectively above the law while the rest of us play by the rules?

The point about the monarchy and abuse is that the Windsors are entrenched. The establishment both supports and is supported by the Windsors .

A president would be removed every 4 or 5 years
We can see that the Windsors come from literal generations of abusers and pedophiles and it appears normalised in their orbit

It is this entrenched privilege that both allows the offence to happen and keeps them above the law re consequences.

Why is Trump always trotted out as an example? There are many countries where the Head of State is a responsible respected person.

I’m amazed that many people who trot out the Trump argument don’t understand that in UK we have the monarch (head of state) and the PM ( head of government). Trump is both so it’s simply not comparable. Ireland. Germany for example keep the two roles separate and it seems to work well enough.
