Shamelessly posting here for traffic!

We desperately need to replace our carpets which have been in a state since we bought the house. Stairs and landings only (three floors). I don’t really like the standard “twist” carpets not least because a lot of the ones I’ve seen look a bit shiny I guess due to the plastic content, but in general they also just seem a bit old-fashioned to me. I’d like something with a bit of texture if not full on pattern (looking at cream/beige) and I’ve seen a few nice loop ones but went into a shop the other day and the guy said that you can’t have a loop carpet with pets. We have a dog who likes to hang out on the corner step and also sleeps on the landing so this has kind of thrown a spanner in the works…

Has anybody successfully had a loop carpet with a dog? He’s not really a scratcher but I have read that it’s also about them getting their nails caught. Otherwise from what I can see it’s possible to have a flat weave carpet which does look a bit nicer but feels a bit thin/hard. Has anybody got one of these with a dog and also just in general would welcome feedback on how comfy they are!

Dog likely to only be around another 5 years or so and carpet hopefully much longer than that so feels a bit mad to have to be so restricted…

TIA!

Very low pile carpets seem to work best.
They stay cleaner as there is less pile to matt with loose hair and dirt.
We have found carpets that contain no wool at all clean best and dont smell, because they dry faster if they get damp and there is no organic material to..well bluntly..rot.
Synthetic fibers can be washed with allsorts of cleaners depending on the accident, and even bleached.

We have a very low pile synthetic carpet with multi toned beige stipes. It was cheap but still looks like new after 7 years. The underlay was very expensive and that is what gives it all the bounce and resilience. We also have a membrane above the underlay / below the carpet so if the carpet gets wet it stays there rather than soaks through.

We also have a very decent carpet shampooer and extractor. So that and the underlay is where the money went.

I have a low pile carpet and a dog, no issues so far but I wouldn't have bought a loop carpet.
The colour of mine is biscuit, sort of a pale mocha colour with a subtle fleck.
I didn't want a dark flat colour due to the dog, hair etc.
I also have the same colour mats at the door and patio door to take the wet off the dogs feet

Thanks. Are your carpets both twist?

I should have said that it’s a non-shedding dog and he doesn’t come in the house dirty – if he’s muddy he gets plonked in the utility sink immediately for a bath and his paws get cleaned whenever he comes in so not too worried about dirt and hair…
