To want to pay someone to do my uni work

I know deep down it’s a bad idea but it feels like the best option.

Cannot edit above post. What a mess. The perils of small screens!

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 31/01/2026 14:19

The point in going to uni is to learn, if someone else does your work then you’re not learning.

Theonlywayicanloveyou · 31/01/2026 14:24

Tell us more about what’s happening in your life…? Why is the course overwhelming right now? Do you have lots of other obligations? Are you struggling with your mental health?

Somemothersdoavem · 31/01/2026 14:25

Just get writing, the first draft is a chance to get your ideas down and then you can shape it, add in references etc. I look at the essay brief and marking grid as that tells you what you should include. I’ve never cheated on an essay and would never do that. You learn so much from writing an essay, the research can be really interesting. The last bit of a course is the hardest, you are nearly there, keep going and earn your degree.

Ask for an extension if needed

Somemothersdoavem · 31/01/2026 14:27

Another tip: Point, evidence, explain

Of course it’s a bad idea: irrespective of the dishonesty involved, you’d be cheating yourself too, chucking away precious opportunities for learning, that you’ll regret.
(How will you sit your finals anyway, if you haven’t any deep knowledge of your subject, nor acquired any facility in writing on it?)

Rubinia · 31/01/2026 14:34

Most uni‘s use Programms that detect the likelihood of something being written by chatGPT.
How will someone else doing your work help you? Are you planning to still study? I think there’s more value in sitting down with your tutor and asking where you’re going wrong. By all means get help with those specific points but uni work is intended as a learning experience.

chunkyBoo · 31/01/2026 15:01

Why? If you can’t do the work on time then you need to spend more time working. If you don’t understand something, take time to speak to your tutors. If the subject is too difficult, change subjects, or leave and do something you’re able to do.
dare I ask which subject? If it’s something in healthcare I’d suggest you change / leave because you’re not going to be able to do a really critical job when you ‘qualify’

Griffindor1979 · 31/01/2026 15:02

Don’t think the OP is coming back 🥱

Tiddlywinkly · 31/01/2026 15:05

Hi op. I work in the field of HE academic malpractice discipline.

It's not worth the risk and the potential fallout if you get caught. Even taking into consideration, life difficulties/stress/illness, nothing excuses it and you're most likely looking at a zero for the assessment (at best).

Better to apply for an extension. Unis are usually pretty accommodating. If it's the course more broadly, it might be best to consider if it's for you.

I wish you the best.

Online exam we were home. It was in first year we are now in third year if they were going to be caught they would have been.

Third year is HARD. Are you still doing the uni party thing?

I had to stop that about halfway through second year because I knew I couldn't pass at the right level if I didn't focus entirely on it. And that would have been a complete waste of my time and money.

For third year I had to drop hours at work and make choices about how to spend my free time to get myself through it. I'm glad now that I did, although I hated it at the time.

There's not long left. Speak to a tutor, get your head down and it'll be over in 4-5 months.

What is that makes them stand out from essays written by students please?

If you're genuinely a student, you should know that your uni will be using Turnitin or similar software.

I think this response was written by AI..🤔

No, it's quite real thank you.

Loloblue · 31/01/2026 15:26

I'm an academic and on misconduct panels for use of AI. Integrity should be paramount. Speak to someone. But don't plagiarize.

rainandshine38 · 31/01/2026 15:46

I failed 2 students for using AI in their last module. They are going through academic appeals now. As others have said when it’s your job to read essays and mark essays you learn to spot the signs.

Dappy777 · 31/01/2026 15:48

I wouldn’t risk it. Not only is it dishonest, these things have a nasty way of coming out. I did a degree in literature at Essex in the 90s and remember a literature professor telling us about an MA student who had copied someone else’s dissertation. Somehow, the university found out ten years down the line and stripped the student of their degree. If I cheated, I’d be worried for the rest of my life.

Isitreallythough · 31/01/2026 15:56

I hope you can get some support to find a way forward that maintains your integrity. Cheating is just wrong and undermines the value of your qualification. Please don’t. If your course is not a good fit for your skills and you get a degree through cheating you’re lying to future employers and setting yourself up for difficulties in jobs for which you’re not genuinely qualified.

Mindbogglingx · 31/01/2026 16:09

CharlotteLightandDark · 31/01/2026 09:38

Why don’t you just use AI like every other student?

Just do this no one learns anything anymore.
So just follow the rest.

AI isn't allowed on some degrees. It wasn't on any module on my last one

I study at the open university. They don't allow students to get extra tutoring.

I have never heard of this rule - please can you tell me how you found this out. I have tutored university students in the past and was not aware this was ever an issue.

Obviously I don't give them answers to questions, but I do help them with essay structure etc. and would like to know if this is unacceptable, because then I wouldn't accept the students from these universities at all.

I found it out because I am an Ou student and someone asked on the large Facebook group could she pay a tutor - there are multiple ou tutors on that page and she was told absolutely not. The ou are really strict with things like questions being shared to third parties as well.

Students can attend university workshops which cover things like referencing, literature searches. My last course had a weekly tutorial online where we discussed the essay topic and the essay brief, marking grid. We were allowed to show our tutor 10 % of our essay for feedback and can have the essay proofread by a friend/relative

HeyThereDelila · 31/01/2026 18:49

It’s cheating. Do it yourself or quit the course. It’s an appalling thing to do.
