I owed £21,119 when I graduated in 2020 (Plan 2 in Wales). I had the highest amount of grants (maintenance and tuition fees) due to coming from a low-income household.

What about you?

£12k in 2005. 21 years later I have £9k. And I have been employed for all that time.

About 12K 2004. Still took me until 2021 to pay it off… feel really bad for today’s students and worry about my kids being saddled with a massive debt.

Ds left with just under 50k 2 years ago, he has just started paying it back in the last month following a big rise. Hes currently refusing to look at how much he ows. Given he's not on 66k it will still be rising. We would love to have paid for him but on 2 normal public sector saleries not a chance, this will brew into a huge scandel. The terms and we looked at very closly have changed so much. Dd is on 1st year of plan 5 slightly better so far. Thier scottish cousins will both graduate with no loans/ debt in very similar courses. And we are a "united" kingdom?

12k in 2008. Managed to pay it off last year.

It took longer because I had a few years where I didn’t meet the threshold to start paying it back and then another few years when I had a child and didn’t work so the interest really racked up over that time.

I think I was paying back about £170 a month in the end so not an insignificant amount! People seem to think that graduates pay off such low sums that they will never notice it and that’s really not the case. The debt figures these days are astronomical
