It’s just so dangerous

Like what?

Barneybagpuss · 29/01/2026 21:41

You’ve only just realised this ?

Legally77777 · 29/01/2026 21:42

Yes it seems to be becoming more prevalent surely it’s a risk to people’s safety?

Like what? And where?

HeartyBlueRobin · 29/01/2026 21:45

Prescription only medication still has to be prescribed by a clinician (doctor or pharmacist). Just because you order something online doesn't mean you'll get the medication.

In England the clinician will check your summary care record to ensure there's no contraindication. They'll also inform your GP.

ShowOfHands · 29/01/2026 21:49

I've recently had to buy prescription meds online because the dispensary/GP were refusing. I had no choice. Thank God it was available.

Octavia64 · 29/01/2026 21:49

Absolutely.

loads of places online will sell you chemicals like H2O.

it can be really dangerous.

ShawnaMacallister · 29/01/2026 21:50

You do know that prescription medicine online is still prescribed by a doctor? And what chemicals?

Doggymummar · 29/01/2026 21:52

I don't have time to go to a gp, always get mine online, have done for years. You still have a consultation and it's usually antibiotics only. And hrt forgot that one, and mounjaro

Summerhillsquare · 29/01/2026 21:53

Chemicals 🤣

VikaOlson · 29/01/2026 22:01

I've bought norethisterone online through Superdrug but they do get an actual doctor to sign off on it.

It doesn’t I know people who get sleeping pills online no questions asked

I mean, you can get sleeping pills behind the counter in every pharmacy without a prescription. 🤷🏻‍♀️

That said, Dh thinks he has asthma (he doesn’t) and buys inhalers online without a prescription. I do think it’s a bit odd. I guess somewhere online a doctor signs off on it, but it’s not his GP and he has no formal diagnosis of asthma (I say this as someone who is asthmatic). BIL does as well. He actually does have asthma, but is too embarrassed to see the GP, so buys them online instead.

SquishyGloopyBum · 29/01/2026 22:14

I bought chemicals today from the supermarket: shampoo, kitchen cleans and bleach. No one batted an eyelid tbf.

Of course you can buy chemicals for labs online…that’s how labs buy them…from suppliers online. They come SDS (safety data sheets) with all the information on them on how hazardous they are etc.

drusilla49 · 29/01/2026 22:19

When you buy prescription meds online, you are effectively just buying a private prescription. It’s still a qualified prescriber, either a doctor or an Independent Prescriber.

katmarie · 29/01/2026 22:22

Plenty of your domestic products are just lab chemicals with some additions. Dh buys citric acid, hydrochloride acid and god knows what else in wholesale bottles, and seems to always have a way of getting a thing clean, unsticky or shiny again. He does have a masters in chemistry though so I trust he knows what he's doing.

You do realise water is a chemical. Not all chemicals are dangerous and are kept under lock and key in a lab

COSHH regulations are very varied and can be confusing

ohyesido · 29/01/2026 22:33

Where?

Avantiagain · 29/01/2026 22:34

I wonder which chemicals you've been using to create all this frothing.

Whackybakky · 29/01/2026 22:36

My neighbours boast about using banned weed killer that they buy online.

They really don't see the issue with why it would have been banned in the first place and feel clever thinking they are playing the 'system'

The mind boggles.
