Does anyone have a Substack?

I used to love reading blogs when I was a new mum. Unfortunately nobody seems to really blog anymore and most them have turned into annoying influencers!
I recently discovered Substack and have subscribed to a few people on there. I really like it. It seems less faff than blogging and you don’t have to pay unless you want to see extra stuff.
As a keen writer I’ve been thinking about setting one up myself. I wondered if anyone else has one? Not to share as I know it would be outing but maybe just give an idea of what you write, what you enjoy reading, etc.

Yes I've had one for ages, about 3 years - I was an early adopter! On the whole I really like it and it's def perfect if you want to read medium/long pieces. I write about poetry. I really enjoy it and it actually makes me a small amount of money too - and also brings me quite a bit of work indirectly because people who follow it ask me to do other things.

I read a few newsletters and subscribe to one but don’t have one. I find Substack a bit overwhelming to be honest. I liked blogs too!

Thats why I’ve posted, I feel a bit overwhelmed by it too. I like the idea of just being able to dip in and out. And of having somewhere (anywhere!) to write. I don’t have a specialist subject, I just enjoy writing and talking about my thoughts, books I’ve read, things I’ve enjoyed and so on. I doubt anyone would even read it but it would be a creative outlet for me either way.

You can write on it without subscribing to much or anything. (You can also "follow" but not subscribe if you don't want the emails, then you'll just see those posts when you log in to the site/app.) I'd say it's worth a go, the interface is v straightforward.

I know what you mean about wanting a creative outlet. I’d go for it. You could put a nominal 50p charge for your newsletters if you want to avoid being followed by people trying to sell you stuff.

Yes I do, I write about midlife and my attempts to live ‘better’. I’ve only been doing it about 6 months and don’t have many subscribers but I enjoy writing and it’s a bit like a diary for me - if anyone else enjoys it that’s a bonus. I also follow a few people who interest me. It’s a nice friendly community, I really hope it doesn’t go the way of Instagram and other social media.
