Would you take your dc out of the nursery for this?

My DD had tonsillitis and was given antibiotics. She was feeling better in herself so went back to nursery but still was on her course of antibiotics.

A staff member accidentally gave her 10ml more of the phenoxymethylpenicillin that she was meant to have. She had 15ml instead of the 5.

I would want to know if the TA that was covering has had Administration of Medicines in Schools training.

If not, she shouldn't have been anywhere near giving kids medications and it's a massive safeguarding/health and safety failure on the part of the school.

In my school nursery we absolutely do not administer antibiotics for this reason.
Humans make mistakes.

Yes, in a professional setting there should be protocols and procedures in place to prevent this happening, but human errors can happen. So unless it is a life saving medication ( for epilepsy, epi pens etc) we will not administer.

In the case of a course of antibiotics parents are welcome to come and give them themselves or keep their child at home but we will not accept responsibility.

In your case I think your decision should be governed by how content you are with their care in general, is your child generally well looked after?
