Neighbour smokes weed and drives

Just this, goes out every couple of hours, returns 5-10 mins later, regularly noticed over 12 months or so, odd , not doing school runs, walked past him parked up five minutes away, could smell it, mystery solved. I know I’m being a Karen, but still it’s drug driving, WWYD?

I have known quite a few people do this and it's terrifying. I've never reported anyone though so I guess I'm part of the problem.
An old neighbour was constantly high whilst driving his children about. It seems to be everywhere nowadays. People are brazenly smoking it in the street. I hate the stuff. I know too many men who started as a teenager and now have paranoia and anger issues. They're also completely addicted and never stop for any length of time. It worries me that my children may start so I reiterate the perils all of the time.

i reported an Amazon driver to the company as he drove fast up our little street whilst smoking weed.
I know I was a Karen but it was a big van being driven badly by someone under the influence.
If there are laws about drinking and driving then there should be laws about smoking weed and driving.

bluecampbell · 27/01/2026 00:27

I’d report. He could hit and kill/badly injure someone. I’d take being a Karen over the guilt I’d feel if I hadn’t.

sittingonabeach · 27/01/2026 00:29

Can people stop using the misogynistic term ‘Karen’. And report these drivers

RoastBanana · 27/01/2026 00:29

There are laws about drug driving. But sadly ime reporting it won’t do any good. I have several times reported someone who drives while high - reported him because I don’t want people to die or be injured - and he’s never even been pulled over.
Some day he’ll kill or injure someone, & at that stage there will be outrage.

TempestTost · 27/01/2026 00:41

Weed is legal where I am and this is so common, it's surpassed cases of dring impaired by booze.

Talking to people, there seems to be this idea that weed would not have been legalised if it were really dangerous like booze or cigarettes. So, nothing to worry about.

When I was a kid there were massive campaigns about the dangers of drinking and driving but I don't see that about weed.

BertieWoostersChaps · 27/01/2026 00:48

Ugh please stop calling people a Karen and report these lowlifes.

Did you report to CrimeStoppers?

Police absolutely do act on these reports if they have enough information to suggest that there's a legitimate and ongoing risk.

I'm aware of a case fairly recently where a member of the public reported a mother who regularly did the school run while under the influence to CrimeStoppers. She was arrested pulling out of her driveway and convicted.

Sort out your misogyny before you start on the neighbour.

I did wonder how I would be criticised in a post, ignoring the drug driving behaviour but take the opportunity to point out my wrong. Fair enough Karen is the wrong word, ‘I know I’m being a busy body’ - glad you pointed it out rather than maybe asking, ‘does he have kids in the car’?
