Dreamteam mortgage broker/solicitor

We're completing on our house purchase next week, and I'm not being dramatic when I say our mortgage broker and solicitor have gone above and beyond. It's been a long, drawn-out affair, and now I want to thank them, but I'm not sure what's appropriate. Has anyone else done this? Or is it a really weird thing to do? 😅I'm just so fucking happy we're almost there and want to show how much I appreciate their help!

For the solicitor, send them a gushing email about how brilliant they have been copying in the managing partner at their firm so they get the recognition they deserve.

Mortgage broking isn't that hard. 90% of people could easily do it themselves using comparison sites.

I sent mine a coffee voucher and a recommendation email. Plus I did a Google review.

Nothing is difficult if you know how to do it....but that wasn't the question

A really good mortgage broker is worth their weight in gold. They know all the niggly little things with all the mortgage companies that you can't find out from comparison sites. Like which ones take what into account for affordability purposes, what each one's specific requirements are etc. That can save a lot of hassle and speed up getting the offer. And if you need a late change to the mortgage offer at the eleventh hour (e.g. a price drop requiring it to be reissued) they have direct relationships they can call on to speed things up.

Ours is fee-free and all of market, and I wouldn't be without him. We buy and sell a fair amount and have found others in thr chain without a good broker have often run into problems.

Thank you card and flowers or biscuits or chocs usually does the trick. A client gave me one of those wooden calendar blocks before and I had it years before it got lost on a move. I never forgot her!

I disagree. He was the 3rd (!) one we approached with our unusual situation, and the only one who managed to find a way to get it done, and get it done in a way that works super well for us. If we'd have listened to the first two, we'd never have been successful on this property! His relationships with the banks and market knowledge have made all the difference.

It’s not weird at all. I’ve had clients gift me flowers, chocolates, wine and take me out to lunch. All greatly appreciated.

A TrustPilot review is also well received as my managing partner monitors those!

LittleJustice · 26/01/2026 22:29

That is so lovely to hear.

I often get thank you emails from my clients and I've also had flowers chocolates and thank you cards, all of them really make our day.

Conveyancing can be a very stressful job and to receive recognition for doing a good job just makes it all worth while.

Also nowadays good online reviews are worth a lot to us.
