AIBU to already be sick to the back teeth of people asking how we are, and wanting to discuss our future plans in depth. Our workplace has just announced closure and everyone is talking round in circles. With some its genuine concern but with others I know its just fact finding/nosiness. I am starting to lose my patience....the ladies in my department are already feeling fragile and his just does not help. SO tempted to put a 'please go away!' sign on the door.

If it's new news it would be a bit weird if they didn't mention it at least in passing?

to be honest- in your situation where you aren’t working with these people for much longer, who cares? Just disengage the weight you attach to it. At the moment there’s a hub of discussion about it bc your workplace is closing, they are naturally having those chats with each other so in a way it’s polite that they are including you as opposed to freezing you out. But if you don’t want to engage, then just keep your answers short and kill the conversation.

100% people will be looking to see where others are applying to and jumping to, in case they can get a job with that employer too. So yeah it definitely is going to be an element of fact finding or nosiness. But you’ve got a group of people who presumably need to find another job, so it’s not hugely weird that they’re asking. Keep your cards close if you want to, but ultimately you don’t need to give it much extra thought. In a few years time you’ll have forgotten that these people exist.
