Why would they have to pay? I’m surprised, you’re suprised

BreakingBroken · 26/01/2026 01:29

Where I live the support workers car insurance top up from personal use to business is paid and mileage is also paid. Maybe UK support workers are similarly reimbursed.

ThePure · 26/01/2026 01:39

NHS support worker it’s free (bit should be time limited goal directed support not a lift to the chippie) Part of a social care package you pay or the LA does according to means testing but you can ask them to take you wherever within reason

NerrSnerr · 26/01/2026 02:09

Depends on the support worker and package of care. People will have support workers from the NHS, local authority, private sector etc and will be for a variety of different reasons. It will depend on so many factors.

elliejjtiny · 26/01/2026 02:49

When ds2 had a support worker I used to have to pay a certain amount per mile and whatever other expenses like entry to soft play etc. Social services paid the wages of the support worker.

JanuaryJasmine · 26/01/2026 02:52

what type of support worker are they?

Foolforyou · 26/01/2026 12:33

Through adult social care

It's means tested.

Verytall · 26/01/2026 12:46

Why are you surprised? The transport is part of the support package, the support worker will be reimbursed by their employer. Why does it bother you?

BauhausOfEliott · 26/01/2026 13:56

The support worker is presumably reimbursed one way or another, so what does it matter?

TheDandyLion · 26/01/2026 14:00

I work for a charity that has support workers and they claim expenses and travel costs.

BillieWiper · 26/01/2026 14:03

Well presumably it's factored in to the cost to the LA or the individual paying said worker.

I wouldn't want the support worker to have to pay for petrol, parking etc out of their own pocket. They should be able to claim it back as an expense or it's prepaid into their wages.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 26/01/2026 14:18

Depends entirely on the individual setup

RudolphTheReindeer · 26/01/2026 14:21

How do you know they don't pay? The travel costs are probably part of their support package (which as said will be means tested). Why is it an issue?

365RubyRed · 26/01/2026 14:27

Is this someone you know? Why the interest? Unless it's a member of your family, I don't see that it is anything to do with you.
