To think you can be perimenopausal at 39?

Can you get Perimenopause symptoms at 39?

once a month I suffer with vaginal dryness and basically for 3 days I just sit on the toilet weeing. It feels like a uti though without pain, just a constant need to go. Would vaginal oestrogen help? Has anyone tried it? Also have a uterine prolapse.

also have the mirena coil fitted.

haven’t had sex in months.

You could get an at home test kit to check your Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) which costs £63. This will tell you if this hormone is much lower than it should be at your age and hence you will experience menopause sooner

@Catlover465 unfortunately yes you can.

I think you can be perimenopausal at 29.

Yes. A few of my friends did. I am 51 and still struggle through monthly periods just as if I were 16. But none of my friends do anymore, and haven't for many years.

I mean, yes, you can be in perimenopause at that age as far as I know.

I started on vaginal oestrogen when I was a couple of years older than you and I find it very helpful. I would talk to your GP (and I hope you have a good, helpful GP.... mine is a star). fwiw I also have Mirena.

HildaBWilderbeast · 25/01/2026 21:38

You may find it is being caused by the Mirena - it is actually a known thing. You could get it removed and see if things get better (with or without topical estrogen)?

Yes it's possible but you need to go talk to your GP and get some blood tests
