To stay in a safari tent at Easter?

Thinking of booking a safari tent in Devon during the Easter holidays for us and the kids. It says it has double glazing and central heating, but is still made mostly of canvas.

Will it be fun or will we be freezing?

Has anyone done this who can comment?

I'm not sure about Easter but I went to one October half term in Wales and it was awful. So windy, the canvas banged literally all night. Wouldn't do it again personally.

Oh thanks, sounds like a summer only thing then!

Camped in may for a festival there was an unseasonably cold night and it was awful. Really really awful I could not get warm. Never again.

Is that one with heating etc? If so am definitely going to scrap this idea!

We did it in March for a hen do and it was brilliant. Definitely didn’t get cold.

Easter can be very variable.

could be freezing and windy and rainy or could be glorious.

up to you.

I did this, at Easter, in the lakes. It was THE END OF CAMPING FOREVER for me. And I loved camping before. It was dreadful. So so cold, bitterly cold. Shudder. I do not want to talk about it thank you very much for asking 😅😅

I don't want to make you relive the trauma, but did yours have central heating and it was still horrendous?

Upstairs same. I actually feared I would not survive the night. Has put me off camping for life.

We did this once it was billed as glamping and had an electric radiator and full electric- no bathroom though other than a dash across to a shared porta cabin shower/ toilet block the path was lit but as I get up at least once a night for the loo it was tiresome because of that. Was very clean and that night only shared with our friends. The tent itself was a great set up- very cosy with a proper bed and lovely cosy bedding, kettle for tea in the morning and slept great- all the fresh air I think (and the wine shared round the firepit helped a lot I daresay!) I've done normal camping once in my life and never ever again.

It was mid April in the UK

I have done it - we took an electric heater thing which helped.

That all said, DS (11) has done actual camping with Scouts in January and was fine.

Don't give up on the idea. There are plenty of ways you can stay warm and cosy.

If you are properly prepared with plenty of blankets, warm bedding and bed clothes and hot water bottles you'll be fine.

If you have electrical hook-up you can use an electric blanket and/or heater.

We've been camping in December and it was great fun.

We always used to do a safari tent the 1st week they opened for the season.
we were never cold despite frosts some mornings we were there!
It had heating, a bathroom and a hot tub it was fabulous, we even took our puppy at 12 weeks and he was fine too!
Just pack layers, we spent 90% of our time in PJ’s and thick socks and that was plenty.
only reason we stopped was the price sky-rocketed! It was £199 for a Mon-Fri the first time we went in 2021 and this year it’s £429 for the same week

I've done it twice at Easter. No central heating. We're all campers, so used to sleeping with no heating. We took blankets with us. We had a great time, and I was glad I didn't have to wrangle a tent!
I might look into it for a break this year.
