Cheeky blighters?

Just to say the name relates to an earlier post. However ... New neighbours moved in a few months ago and asked me to petsit for the past week. They've asked for a discount because I'm only two doors away and don't have to use the car.

Are they cheeky or not?

It’s a little cheeky but fair enough, just say no if you don’t want to.

Bearbookagainandagain · 25/01/2026 12:40

You set the price. If you're not happy, just say no.

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 25/01/2026 12:42

Cheeky sods! Tell them you don’t offer discounted rates.

chunkyBoo · 25/01/2026 12:43

They’ve asked after you’ve done the work?! Cheeky fuckers!!

BlossomLeaves · 25/01/2026 12:45

Would you usually charge travel on top of your rates, or as part of the package? I can see why they asked, but you’ve got no obligation to agree.

Sunfloweranddaisy · 25/01/2026 12:46

No way! They are cheeky fuckers! The fact they have asked means they are going to be a pain in the arse going forward. Give an inch they will take a mile.

Start as you mean to go on with a firm ‘no sorry no discounts this is my business. I am more than happy for you to find someone else to petsit.’

Just realised you are pet sitting at the moment? So they knew the price before they went?

discodoggy · 25/01/2026 12:46

Chancers but you had to think of this long term and if you would want to pet sit again for them?

99pwithaflake · 25/01/2026 12:47

They're being massively cheeky.

But this is why I always take payment upfront for any sitting jobs - to prevent people taking the piss and messing me around.

Do you have a contract?

MumtoGPW · 25/01/2026 12:51

Definitely cheeky blighters.
My neighbour offers a service and anyone on our road gets a small ongoing discount (as long as we're first or last client of the day). I've told her many times she should charge full price, its her livelihood. It was probably a good way of getting customers when she moved onto the street but 10 years on shes still doing it.
The neighbours have two options pay your prices or go elsewhere.

Anonycat · 25/01/2026 12:51

"Discount" on what? I mean, do you publish your pet-sitting prices? If so, and if you are asking them the same price as you would for someone whose house was miles away, fair enough to ask for a discount as you’ll be saving on travel time /expenses. But if you meant they approached you out of the blue and are trying to haggle down the price you quoted them, they are cf's.

Yes and I quoted them a price.

When I was working there they hadn't left any kitchen roll or rubbish bags out. I opened the cupboards to see if I could find any. I didn't, so I tried a drawer. I was not snooping so no accusations of that. But the drawer contained mail and on the top was a letter about CCJ and debt so the request doesn't surprise me.

You shouldn't just be quoting a price - you should be taking full payment upfront for the entire job so they can't mess you around like this.

If you're the poster I think you are, you were told about contracts and upfront payments last time.

No way! Demand the quoted price or small claims

TheDenimPoet · 25/01/2026 13:34

"We already agreed on the price, so your total invoice is for x as agreed".
