A glass worktop saver.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 24/01/2026 23:25

Just use some bleach to get the marks off.

GardyLou · 24/01/2026 23:29

A worktop saver or a shallow-lipped tray would work.

Scaredycat259 · 24/01/2026 23:30

Bicarbonate of soda gets rid of tea stains.

JanuaryJasmine · 24/01/2026 23:35

I don't, I keep the tea IN the mugs 🤣🤣

but I have san old worktop that's seriously forgiving of any spills, heat etc. it's the one thing I'm dreading with a new kitchen, it not being as forgiving ' me ruining it in 5 minutes.

id be pissed off if it didn't come clean with a basic hot soapy wash.

what is your worktop made of??

I have a small rubber mat in front of the coffee machine to protect it where I tamp the coffee (flatten the grinds) as that involves a bit of pressing/banging on the grind holder, but it drives me mad. It looks untidy & gets knocked off. So I'd do whatever it took to avoid needing one in your situation! (Being more careful making tea & wiping up any spills immediately) Else just choose something you like the look of!

ArseSkinForAFriend · 24/01/2026 23:35

I'd probably bleach it at this point.

But in future just wipe up immediately so it doesn't get the chance to stain.

Pink stuff paste is great for things like this

HelpMeGetThrough · 25/01/2026 03:34

Nothing, but if anything gets spilt it’s wiped up immediately, but nothing gets spilt normally.

Your coffee and tea must be a biological weapon to do this.

WinnerWinnerChickenDinnner · 25/01/2026 04:12

Little crocheted matts, by the tea area and a plastic place matt in front of the coffee machine.

Worralorra · 25/01/2026 07:07

I have a silicon mat that has a rim around it for my coffee maker, as it’s on a wooden sideboard. If there is a spill, the coffee can’t escape and it’s easy to blot up and clean.

OrsolaRosso · 25/01/2026 07:10

I have black granite so tea stains wouldn't really show, but use a couple of sheets of folded kitchen towel to soak up any spills or dribbles.

sesquipedalian · 25/01/2026 07:10

I have a piece of black granite that sits on our (pale) side in front of the kettle for just this reason.

BeefAndHorseradishSandwich · 25/01/2026 07:41

Baking soda. Mix it up into a paste with a small amount of water. Then press it down onto the tea stain and leave it for a few hours. Hopefully it should remove the tannin. It’s got a few marks off my quartz counter.

BeefAndHorseradishSandwich · 25/01/2026 07:43

Sorry, my advice was how to fix the stains that are already there (obviously!)

user665178392470 · 25/01/2026 07:45

Bar keepers friend! Never found anything it wouldn't remove. I buy the spray from amazon as I prefer it to the powder and my local supermarkets don't stock it. Doesn’t smell pleasant, but it works.
