Stabbing pain lower right side what do I do??

hazelnutvanillalatte · 24/01/2026 23:05

Hi, don't know if anyone can help me. This lower right side pelvic pain started over the summer and I was given antibiotics and referred to gynae but never got an appointment. Then six months ago bloating, digestive problems, feeling full, urinary problems, back pain, throbbing pain - again given gynae referral for a scan and told I would get a text but haven't heard back.

I am lying in bed now in pain, it's become more of a stabbing pain as well as throbbing and it is making me really worried.

I don't know what to do or where to go for help.

You need to call 111 for advice and assessment. It could be any number of things but suddenly worsening pain needs a medical opinion.

Newyearsameme26 · 24/01/2026 23:08

Call 111 in the first instance.

Bufftailed · 24/01/2026 23:08

I think A and E. You need to be seen

hazelnutvanillalatte · 24/01/2026 23:08

Thanks. I know they will tell me to go to A&E but I have no childcare

Agree you need to be seen asap , a friend fobbed off like this had an ovarian cyst burst, was extremely unwell and lost the ovary. Please call and get advice on going into A and E.

Shmoigel · 24/01/2026 23:10

Right side could also be Appendicitis

Christwosheds · 24/01/2026 23:11

Is there no friend who would sit with your children ? Are you a single parent ?

Thanks. How did she get help? Did she go to A&E? I am scared of this, I have PCOS

How old are your kids and how many?

Are you absolutely sure there is nobody you can ask to have them? It's a real emergency after all. I am thinking:

  • another parent (even if you are separated and they aren't usually helpful)
  • family member (even if it's not hugely convenient for them)
  • parent of one of your kid's ' friends
  • neighbour, even if you aren't close.
  • one of your own friends, even if they don't generally babysit for you and have their own stuff going on.

Obviously you know your own situation best, but you might be surprised by who will help when they realise it's a real emergency. I have looked after the kids of neighbours I barely know in similar circumstances, and would be happy to be called by a mate or one of dd's friends parents in a similar situation, even if the timing was far from ideal.

Plwase don't be afraid to ask. This is fucking important.

And good luck. I am thinking kidney stone. I had one that gave me a degree of pain (bearable) for months, then moved further down and blocked my kidney basically - I had to be hospitalised. (I was totally fine long term, but it was something that required emergency treatment).

@Ilovelurchers thank you x
Two nursery age, one primary school
I dread going to A&E from experience but if I have to I will, and fight to be seen

I would ring 111 first, don't try and predict what they will tell you to do,they might book you an appointment with an OOH doctor.

Ohthatsabitshit · 25/01/2026 00:43

Ring 111. It’s a process. You report what’s wrong, they tell you what to do to stay safe.

Kingscallops · 25/01/2026 00:45

Let us know how you get on. 😊 ❤️

sittingonabeach · 25/01/2026 00:47

I would help a mum in need in such a situation you are in @hazelnutvanillalatte

111, if your otherwise well and this pain is chronic (though worsening).

And please, if you get any appointments through attend them. Or chase up with your GP. Being referred and hearing nothing isn't to be ignored.

hazelnutvanillalatte · 25/01/2026 00:53

Thank you @Kingscallops x

They say they will try to refer urgently but they don't know if it will be accepted, and that they don't know what the timeframe will be because it's up to the hospital, and when I ask at the next appointment they just say, if you haven't heard anything we will put the referral through again. So I feel unsure as to how to get any information or actually get seen

I’m sorry you’re going through this.
Are you already registered under your gynae hospital consultant/department? Ours have very recently started a gynae A&E that you can call. Currently it is M-F working hours but wondered if there was anything like that near you?

JanuaryJasmine · 25/01/2026 01:07

Ask the GP reception where it has been referred to then phone the hospital and follow up the referral. The admins are usually very helpful. I've had to do it a lot

have you phoned 111 tonight.

id come and sit with anyone's kids in this situation. just ask! Would have been better to ask hours ago, lots of people will have phones on DND by now, but if 111 decides you need to go to hospital & organise an ambulance for you the paramedics will knock neighbours doors for you if you haven't been able to get anyone before then.

you should try to get someone to sit with you while you wait for the ambulance.

SlB09 · 25/01/2026 20:40

So this is probably through something called advice and guidance/advice and refer so basically your GP will write to gynea or whatever speciality and they either give back advice or transfer the request to a referral and see you in outpatients so either way the surgery will have an answer from the speciality so saying nothing just isn't acceptable tbh. Have you got nhs app? It's normally within the documents part of this.

alexdgr8 · 25/01/2026 20:50

You need to ring 111
and be guided by them.
All the best.

Right side could also be Appendicitis

Happened to me recently, needed emergency appendectomy (when I was stabilised). Was in for 9 days as had gotten peritonitis. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

Sorry I don't mean to be frightening you, but it could be serious and shouldn't be left untreated.

Xxx
