I love the look of their rugs and I really want one for the living room. I’ve picked the design I like but I’d need the largest size, which is over £1,000. It’s a lot of money to spend without seeing or feeling it, so I just wondered if anyone else has one and whether you are still pleased with it. This is the one I like. There’s a sale on so I’m quite keen to buy it today.

Because I have a child in a wheelchair and, unlike my dirty shoes, I can't take his wheels off and leave them at the door. We have a couple of Ruggable rugs, one runner in the hallway and one big rug in the living room, both have been washed without problem. Carpets don't go in the washing machine and wooden floors are too hard/cold for a child who's only independent way of moving is to roll on the floor.

Yes but op doesn't, this wasn't aimed at you or the generic why buy a washable rug

Figmentofmyimagination · 24/01/2026 12:19

It was the design that I really loved. That’s what’s so tricky about the internet and why this sort of forum is so useful. I’m heading to a John Lewis today as it happens so I’ll see what they’ve got for sale the old fashioned way.

We have a runner in the hall and it is very thin. The hoover picks it up every time and it gets dreadfully creased. Not washed it yet, but have spot washed it a few times and it's come up well.

Figmentofmyimagination · 24/01/2026 12:28

For washable doormats, you can’t beat Turtlemat imho. I love them. I’ve got 4 of them. The bird designs are especially lovely if you like that kind of thing.

I have had one for about 5 years it’s one of the largest size. I have washed mine 3 times - at a laundrette and the corners do lift so i have to weight them for a while to flatten.
the biggest issue for me is how much the colour has faded. It still looks nice but is only half as bright as when new. I contacted ruggable about the fading and their response was that this is expected and that the rugs are only guaranteed to retain quality for 1 year. Had I known this I would have spent my £1000 plus elsewhere!

One year! That's terrible for something like a rug.

whistlesandbells · 24/01/2026 12:35

They are thin. I have an Iris Apfel one - it’s lovely in my child’s room. It does not need washing often. That said, the whole ‘you can put them in the washing machine’ is a nonsense. Far too big. I also have the kitchen runner. Mine have to go to the dry cleaner / laundrette for a big machine. I would buy the large one again as it is lovely for what it is. The kitchen runner hasn’t aged well.

Ireolu · 24/01/2026 12:40

I've bought 4 since October. Not amazing quality but great for changing up the space. I would wait for their sale or use discounts available. We have an iris rug as an indoor doormat that is similar to the one you linked. Lots of compliments. Won't buy anymore now!

For £1000 you could get a beautiful real rug - why would you want to spend that kind of money on a kind of fake rug?

Because they are machine washable

Tortephant · 24/01/2026 14:05

Hi OP,

yes I have 6 very large ones.
The dog room and office are high traffic and dirty shoe areas and the more I wash them the better they look.

I have two in the living room which look fantastic and ideal when visitors or us spill drinks!. One super large one under the dining room table which looks too new as it hasn’t been washed and the room isn’t used often, and one in the hall.

I love them. They wash well. They look far more expensive than they cost. They get compliments mine are 2 years old.

And, if you order one that doesn’t look right/you don’t like when it arrives they swap them by return at no extra cost.

Simplesbest · 24/01/2026 14:08

Had mine about 5 years. Mine is a thinner one but the largest size. I've got 5 kids, 2 dogs, 4 cats... I wash it at least every 2 months. Absolutely love it. The I do just iron over the edges to flatten it after a wash but honestly ita a god send. But its decorative more than a warm snuggly rug to sit/play on.

Mirabellas · 24/01/2026 09:13

They come with a pad underneath so you can wash the top part. I wasn’t impressed tbh, once the top parts had been washed a few times the corners turned up. I spent a fortune on them only to be disappointed in the end. They were washed carefully according to instructions but ended up looking shabby at the corners. I wouldn’t buy them again.

You can get little weights specially for rugs that you can stitch to the corners to stop this. I had to do it with a rug I loved that kept doing that.

Azurearransea · 24/01/2026 14:44

I was very unimpressed with the quality (very thin) and sent mine straight back.

CrazyCatMam · 24/01/2026 14:50

I have one. 185 x 275. Paid £600.

It's very flat, even with the pad underneath. Think 2 flat pieces of fabric sitting on top of each other. Not remotely like a rug really. I have a large washing machine and can only just about wrestle it into the machine. Then it has to be dragged out and is too heavy for the washing line. It's a faff and a half. So I'd take 'machine washable' with a pinch of salt. Once it's dry, getting it to attach to the Velcro bottom again is also a pain.

When it's down it looks okay. Not comfy to sit on, but looks fine. Haven't had problems with it lifting. It's a magnet for dirt and stains though - more so than an actual rug. For that reason, it's currently folded up in my under stairs cupboard!

Whentosayitsover · 24/01/2026 15:03

I must be the only one who likes mine. I’ve washed it many times and it’s fine. It hasn’t faded. It is thin, but then I expected this as it goes in the washing machine. I just bought the thicker underlay. It doesn’t curl at the corners and with 2 people, it’s easy to fix back down. I’d buy another.

I also got fed up of my hoover sucking it up and the rugs just didn’t look right being on top of a non slip pad that comes with them. My friend wanted them and loves them, I’ll say to her about the little weights for the corners as that’s her only annoyance with them. Thank you for this.

Purplebunnie · 24/01/2026 17:09

@PatchouliPrincess can I ask where you get the weights from please? I have a wool rug on top of carpet it rucks up along the edge of the fireplace but the corners are the worst. Thanks

BreakingBroken · 24/01/2026 17:13

I got one despite being confused with the 3 quality options. It arrived was thin and looked like painted on velour fabric. Disgusting returned immediately.

I got mine for a door curtain I was making. Just look for curtain weight on Amazon. Cut off what you need and stitch it on. I stitch it all across though.

Thanks very much I will do that

Thingamebobwotsit · 24/01/2026 18:01

Yes. Don't bother. Don't wear well. Ourd lasted 6 months (hallway) before I got irritated by having to wash it and re-lay it so often. As a PP said they seem to attract more dirt. The edges went quite quickly too. It is now in my understaira cupboard until I dig it out and throw it.

Spend the money on a decent rug.

AnonKat · 24/01/2026 18:01

I have a ruggable. Got it probably 2 years ago. Still looks great. I got it because my cat likes to puke on rugs, and its done well with washing. Its pricey though!

Figmentofmyimagination · 24/01/2026 18:23

update!

I went into JL and I saw some ruggables and chatted with the assistant. She said they are only really suitable to go on top of a carpet and not somewhere with lots of tooing and fro-ing like a living room. It would work to eg as a small rug to make my bedroom look a bit more classy and interesting, but definitely not on floorboards in a living room.

Im going to go for a more standard lovely big thick ‘Afghan-style’ one. The real Afghan ones in JL are a bit over my budget - £1,500 - but the JL machine woven ‘equivalent’ is very nice - thick - no need for underlay etc - and £550. Glad I did my research - thanks everyone.
