To wonder what else this full report says and why they won't release it.... Global biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse.

"Ecosystem degradation is occurring across all regions. Every critical ecosystem is on a pathway to collapse."

This is from a UK Government report that's gone under the radar, called: Global biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse
and national security.

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/696e0eae719d837d69afc7de/National_security_assessment_-_global_biodiversity_loss__ecosystem_collapse_and_national_security.pdf

I did a search and couldn't see any threads on this. Apologies if there already is one.

There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of coverage of it in general really.

It's very worrying for the world in general and the UK in particular with its food insecurity issues.

BundleBoogie · 23/01/2026 22:30

It’s quite horrifying. Sadly the government seem invested in making the climate situation worse and attacking farming which further reduces food security.

What kind of world are we going to leave for our kids?

Lopteluga · 23/01/2026 22:48

It’s difficult to escape the conclusion that we’re totally fucked. Perhaps the human race has had its time; I think we’ve definitely peaked and are now on the downhill slope to oblivion.

This is just scary isn't it.

None of my kids want kids and I totally get that. I feel guilty for mine. The world is a dumpster fire.

It's something I'm always conscious of, but this report has made me even more concerned. Particularly as they've been withholding releasing even what they have and the fact they haven't released all the info.

I stopped reading the IPCC reports, because after a certain point they stopped giving specific predictions, and focused on the message that "there is still hope".

As a researcher, I know exactly what that shift means. And I just want to enjoy the time left before shit starts really hitting the fan.

Cattenberg · 23/01/2026 23:56

Bloody hell, it's terrifying. And yet most Brits don't seem to be worrying about this or trying to reduce their carbon footprints.

Maybe I can understand why - the warmer winters feel good for now. And there are climate-change deniers who are prepared to soothe everyone by taking the Medieval Warm Period out of context.

Does anyone know exactly what we're facing and the timeframe? I'm guessing that the biggest threats to the UK are rising sea levels and the disruption of the Ocean Conveyor Belt.

I think the biggest threats to the UK are more global, if countries have disruptions to their food supply they'll feed their own citizens first before exporting. The UK only produces around 60% of its own food needs so relies heavily on imports.

, if countries have disruptions to their food supply they'll feed their own citizens first before exporting.

You'd be amazed at how often this does not happen, and foodstuffs are exported from famine ridden countries. Often the owners of the land/crops are not starving, the people who need the food have no money to buy it & the government are corrupt or lack the power/control to step in and redistribute.

Yes it’s utterly terrifying and it baffles me how many people think it’s a lie/conspiracy .

And yet massive solar panel farms on prime agricultural land keep getting approved. Thousands of acres near me, literally miles and miles of fields in all directions. Currently these fields are growing crops. I’ve objected on the grounds that we need to be more self sufficient as a nation but nobody listens.

Can the UK compete with the other places getting food from those countries with either money or weapons though? The UK currently gets about a quarter of its food from the EU i don't see Europe falling into fallen state and selling off food to the UK before feeding its own citizens? So the UK will need to get more out of African countries- i know France still has some footholds their but not sure about UK. Ukraine is one of the big food producers and we've not done a great job protecting them.

Really concerning for this country and our children. I am not a domesday peeper, but I do believe that we are facing a destabilisation of our society within the next 20 years.

I am currently renovating my property, with 8 acres of land, and I am incorporating self-sufficiency into everything - own borehole for water, solar panels with battery storage, sewage treatment plant and greenhouses for growing own produce (sadly the National Trust ones, the Alitex, are the only ones I crave, so need to save a bit longer to purchase a couple of those!).

The farmhouse will have an EPC A rating, so hoping that the investment will lead to lower running costs. My only gripe is that I do have to pay Elon for Starlink, but other than that dependency, I’m hoping that I have future proofed as far as possible. Next is to apply for a firearms licence! (I have a dream to make it an all female commune and we can just have hot men call over once in a while!)
