AIBU if I cook a Pork Fillet that's use by was the 20th? 3 Days? I'm loathe to waste food but it's not the most attractive peice of meat out there anyway, looking as it does like it's gone through some sort of 'Bobbitting' type ordeal. Thoughts?

As long as it doesn’t smell, is not slimy and you cook it well it should be fine

I agree with this.

cantthinkofagoodusername1 · 23/01/2026 20:52

As per PPs, I would eat it. I'd cook the living daylights out of it though, properly nuke it.

Neveranynamesleft · 23/01/2026 20:53

Agree with above.

Whatifitallgoesright · 24/01/2026 01:40

Thank you all. I never got round to it yesterday. I'll cook it tomorrow unless it smells dodgy.

I would not eat it and I never waste anything. It's pork which is one of the most likely meats to give you food poisoning.

ThePrecisionsifthisislove · 24/01/2026 05:28

It four days past as above wouldn't chance it with pork.
Wouldn't risk food poisoning to save a few quid..the loo roll would probably cost more.

Notashamed13 · 24/01/2026 05:28

It will be fine. Use your a senses....if it stinks / is slimy then obviously swerve it!

DiscoBeat · 24/01/2026 07:47

Pork is one of the meats I'm most cautious about so no

PoptartPoptart · 24/01/2026 12:48

What would be worse.. wasting a few quid or potentially giving yourself food poisoning?
The thing is, you won’t know if it’s ok or not until it’s too late!
And would you really enjoy eating it wondering if it’s going to make you sick?
Up to you op, but I wouldn’t risk it. I’d rather bin it and have beans on toast than potentially spend the next 24 hours with my head seen a toilet.

Pork used to be, because of the probable presence of tape worm cysts. Nowadays, with modern farming, this risk is almost completely eliminated. Look at any cooking show on tv and they will cook pork to pink now, not cooked to shit the way it used to be.

dailyconniptions · 24/01/2026 13:24

I don't waste anything, but that's a no no. Food poisoning is awful and can be very dangerous. It's way too far gone.

Whatifitallgoesright · 24/01/2026 15:35

Yeah, I forgot it again so it's definitely for the bin. Now though, I don't even want to have to open it and squeeze it out into the food wastebin.

If you can’t bear to open the packaging, you were cutting it fine, OP!

Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria monocytogenes or Yersiniosis (Yersinia enterocolitica) anyone then? Don't be daft it's not just the presence of tape worm cysts that are the issue. Just don't risk it.
