Is there any advice I should be giving her?

You’d probably be better drinking neat methanol than the house wines in Cypus.

Bar owners buy it in 20 litre drums for around £2.

Having worked in the bar area of ayia napa for 10 years, I’ve never seen a drop of wine. Just regular bottles of st pantileimon or Aphrodite 😆. The local spirits aren’t especially strong and free shots are generally watered down or mostly juice. Cypriots have a short season to make money so like to maximise profit. The incident being referenced was horrific but quite specific and a once off highly unlikely to be repeated. Any contact I had with the local police was always very positive! There used to be an issue with drunk teenage boys deciding to be cheeky to bouncers coming off worst but it’s a little more regulated now but if they are hanging about with boys it’s worth being aware of. Tell her to avoid drugs. The police do come down hard on that and may have undercover officers or informers in bars so unwise to ask about for them!

They’ll have an epic time. Watch the In Betweeners episode where they’re in Malia (on right now).

A film that shows a different era and indeed a series that is a fictionalised version of a period in time. Not really relevant to the OPs concern, even though a good watch.

No way would any head of sixth form make some of the comments that Mr Gilbert makes, for example.

It makes me feel a bit sad that there used to be recognised and generally accepted standards of behaviour that most people were aware of and stuck to that may no longer exist.

What? This is ridiculous

Be sensible.
Stick together.
Don’t get sunburnt.
Use condoms.
Don’t drink to excess.
There will be a fall out - try not to get involved.
Don’t get into a fight.
Don’t take drugs.

This is the advice I’m giving my son when he goes to Crete this year. Will he follow it? Who knows!

And for the love of God, don't think it's a good idea to get a tattoo! 😂

It's just on so many of those 'cover up my tattoo' shows it's happened on an island holiday with mates - it's always something embarrassing and/or really badly done. Think that's more common for blokes than girls, but all the same...

Under no circumstances hire a quad bike or be a passenger on one.
Buy the best insurance possible.

Or a jet ski.. your insurance will not cover it unless you get extreme sports cover. Yes my mum warned me at that age, no i didn't listen to anything advice she gave me 🙈

To look at it from another perspective, teens going to these rite of passage places are actually not taking as much risk as it sounds, because there are teams of workers/volunteers who have seen it all and know what to do. I volunteered at Boardmasters and it was a bit like a giant rowdy school trip. She is doing something developmentally appropriate and chances are she will be fine.
