Received an item that was basically not in a state that cld be worn. There was faux leather pockets and on one of the pockets it was half peeled off. Looks awful wld never wear it like that. It’s basically fit for the bin. Messaged the seller and they ignored me. Have asked vinted to step in.

Im now reading that I’ll have to pay to return it 😮

How does that work with original postage too? The item was really cheap, so will I only get a couple of pound back or that and the original postage too? Might not be worth it but I’m raging as I’ll need to bin the item too it’s not even good enough to put in the charity shop!

That's how it goes on Vinted, unfortunately. Seller can offer to pay postage, but it's their choice.

SJM1988 · 23/01/2026 11:31

Unfortunately that is how Vinted works. The seller can offer but it is up to the seller and Vinted state the buyer is responsible for the return costs. For cheap items its 100% not worth it but worth keeping and leaving relevant feedback. If you return you can't leave feedback.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 23/01/2026 11:32

If it's Vinted policy it's breaking the law.

ladyofshertonabbas · 23/01/2026 11:33

Seems to be the way. Happened to DD this week. Vinted sounds like a bear pit, i stay away.

MidnightMeltdown · 23/01/2026 11:34

Yeah I’ve had that before. Seller described something as new and when it arrived it clearly wasn’t and I was expected to pay to return. It stopped me buying on vinted. EBay is better.

britneyisfreebutnotokay · 23/01/2026 11:36

It’s happened to me too. That’s how Vinted work. Only worth returning if it’s higher value, otherwise you’re basically stuck with it.

quittingsugar2026 · 23/01/2026 11:38

I had the same experience, vinted were no help , i left a bad review on the feedback form

mummymummymummummum · 23/01/2026 11:39

I had similar with an item that was supposedly new with tags, but it was torn. The tags weren’t actually attached on a hanger, not the dress 🤣

Being slightly wise to Vinted, I mentioned that it had been poorly packaged in my message to Vinted. To be fair, the packaging was ripped. They decided that all the ‘damage’ had been caused by the poor packaging, so I got all my money back, including shipping.

RollOnSunshine · 23/01/2026 11:45

Yes this is how their site works.

Use vinted if you want cheap items but it's important to get good photos of the item and build up a picture of the buyer based on their conversations and other listings. There are plenty of bargains but also a lot of dross and many unscrupulous sellers.

Use Ebay if you want better buyer protection but be prepared to pay higher prices.

Moveoverdarlin · 23/01/2026 11:49

If it’s cheap (under a tenner) then just bin it. With Vinted you have to chalk some things up to experience. You win some, you lose some. It’s not worth the time and hassle of sending back. If you have bought a faux leather jacket for £3 and are shocked at the state of it then lower your expectations, if it was thirty quid, then I’d leave a bad review for the seller.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 23/01/2026 11:51

I've had this before. Described as very good condition but came with multiple different stains. I messaged the seller and she said it was fine when she posted it, which (as stains were different types, places, and it was very well packaged) was a blatant lie. It wasn't worth sending back as a refund was equal to the price of the item.

It's really annoying and a waste of money. But this has been quite rare and has happened a small proportion of the time, I've still had some amazing bargains from there so will continue to use

disappearingfish · 23/01/2026 11:52

You have to be really careful and look at the photos and labels in minute detail. I never buy anything unless I know the brand and can see every part of it clearly.

I also only buy from sellers with excellent reviews.

You can dispute the postage. When I have had to return "significantly not as described" the seller has covered the postage.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 23/01/2026 11:54

I would work out if it would cost me less to absorb the loss OR send it back.

Because I'd be bloody minded and send it back if I could. Why should the seller benefit?

BeefAndHorseradishSandwich · 23/01/2026 11:54

I’ve got no idea what the buyer protection is even meant for because I had something similar and Vinted didn’t give a shit. I think what was more annoying was that the seller refused to accept that there was anything wrong with the item even though I sent her photos clearly showing the stains on her ‘brand new’ trainers. She just denied they were there!!! Then, when I left a review stating this, she left me a nasty one in return. There was no point returning them due to the cost involved.

I’ve had this happen. I binned it because it wasn’t of a quality i would give to charity and the faff and expense of returning just wasn’t worth it.

BeefAndHorseradishSandwich · 23/01/2026 11:55

Go on the FB group ‘Idiots of Vinted’. Absolutely hilarious.

MamaagainJuly2026 · 23/01/2026 11:56

Could you not technically put this down as damage and claim a full refund this way?

I ordered brand new set of mugs, they were meant to be never used in box never taken out but they were very clearly used even with lip marks around them! And tea stained. One had a chip so I marked as damaged and got a full refund including shipping costs x

It is damaged as the pocket is damaged.

Passaggressfedup · 23/01/2026 12:33

I order something that was about 2 sizes smaller than described. Raised an issue, led to sender agreeing to have it back. Paid for postage, sent...and they didn't go to pick it up so it came back to me. Arggggg

Vented said they will pay back any way but almost a month later, I'm still waiting.

Can't even sell it again because its a sport item that wouldn't even fit a 10 years old!

TheFlis · 23/01/2026 12:38

I bought a sweatshirt that was listed as ladies size 12 but when it arrived it was very obviously a kids age 12, it was tiny. Ridiculously I had bought 2 together and the other item was the correct size so the seller clearly knew there was an issue but refused to do anything about it and Vinted were no help. It went to a charity shop.

Branleuse · 23/01/2026 12:43

Don't buy things unless you have checked photos and description. Especially if it's something that's not cheap.

These are people selling their old stuff. They aren't businesses that can absorb the postage cost of you changing your mind sadly.

Branleuse · 23/01/2026 12:50

Also check seller reviews too.

I have had some duds and been ripped off on there, but also I've had someone tell me something was not as described because it was more faded than they thought it would be, despite me taking loads of photos from different angles and in good light and being quite cheap.
Luckily they accepted a partial refund of a couple of quid, because I don't need the hassle.

I'm really careful to describe carefully as well as take lots of pictures especially of defects, but also I am more careful to check everything I buy, and won't buy from people that don't show pics of things like hems or stitching in danger areas for wear and tear.

Agree. Same happened to me. Put down to experience but it's happened 3 or 4 times now. Literally one posting was brand new without tags. Arrived with a rip in and stained! Vinted were not interested.

tedibear · 23/01/2026 15:04

@SJM1988Ah I didn’t know that about the feedback. Def better to not return it then and leave bad feedback. When I’ve looked through her feedback now I can see there is some with lower ratings but maybe a 3-4 saying items were stained etc. I’ll be a lot more careful in future now. I used to just have a quick look at feedback and if it was high 4 I wouldn’t even read them. I will be from now on!

This happened to me recently. I actually posted about it on here! If you can, hang onto the item and leave stinking feedback.
I sent her holey Sweaty Betty leggings back - at my own expense Angry - but because it wasn’t a completed sale, I was deprived of the chance to roast her!
